Last I checked, Telus' ETF was $20 per month. Might as well get the 3-year... either $200 extra for the phone for a two year contract, or $240 ETF.

Besides, you can normally get a new phone after 2 years -- the 3rd year is just a screwjob so you don't jump carriers, while you're stuck with an old phone...
