There's
no doubt that both of HTC's
forthcoming handsets (yeah, the Touch Diamond and Touch Pro) are
coming to Sprint and Verizon. What we're still curious about, however, are the respective launch dates and the eventual names.
phoneArena has it that the Touch Diamond will go by HTC Victor on Sprint and HTC Diamond on Verizon, with the former packing a slightly speedier CPU, an aluminum frame, accelerometer, 4GB of internal memory and EV-DO Rev. A support. As for Verizon's, expect it to boast half the RAM (128MB), a wimpier CPU, microSD expansion slot and a stainless steel frame. Moving on, we're told that the Touch Pro will be rechristined HTC Herman for Sprint and HTC Raphael (nice to
re-meet you!) for The Network. Finally, we're clued in on a September 2nd release date for Sprint's Victor, while the Herman is expected a month later. As for Verizon? It'll probably be 30 or so days behind in both instances thanks to a presumed exclusivity agreement with its nemesis. Get all that?

sprint better keep the diamond back.. that's a HUGE part of the appeal of this phone. with the name 'victor' im thinking its gonna look like the ugly telus one.
a diamond without the diamonds is NOT a diamond.
nes10 @ Aug 5th 2008 7:26PM
You're joking, right? The back is the main reason I would never consider buying this phone. So ugly!
D @ Aug 16th 2008 6:37PM
The back is the last reason I would use to justify buying or not buying a smartphone....
You want looks, get an iPhone.
You want a highly capable device that's good for both work and play, get a Diamond or Touch Pro (or X1)

a diamond without the diamonds is NOT a diamond, and again, sprint had dropped the ball. congratulations.
C.J. Allebach @ Aug 5th 2008 11:27PM
duuu...that might be why THEY AREN"T CALLING IT THE DIAMOND! Read the freakin' story dude!
Razor1973 @ Aug 5th 2008 10:46AM
I wonder if GSM versions of the duo will ever be released.
fyreblazer @ Aug 5th 2008 11:08AM
lol @ VZW losing this battle (half ram? slower cpu? what gives?!) but winning the war (Sprint's going down real soon).
Unfortunately, with VZW buying Alltel and Sprint to soon be out of the game, we'll have to look forward to that. Inferior product on VZW while waiting 6 more months for GSM versions.
Seriously AT&T, your Touch Pro rom leaked 2 weeks ago and you STILL haven't said anything!
gareth @ Aug 5th 2008 11:27AM
Ugh, I shouldnt be surprised that Verizon decided to yet again cripple a great phone. I love it when they get a phone then tear out things that made it appealing to being with like Wifi or GPS. I had such high hopes for them.
As for Sprint I can pretty much guarantee someone will buy into or bail them out. It may not be pretty, but i cannot imagine they would just disappear altogether.
bdenglish @ Aug 5th 2008 11:25AM
What every happened to the Open Access, Any Device, Any Software thing. Can I buy the Sprint version of the Touch Diamond and activate it with my Verizon account?
Brian @ Aug 5th 2008 11:33AM
Sprint isnt going down. They are on the way to turning things around. They still have over 50 million customers...thats far from "going down soon" lol.
C.J. Allebach @ Aug 5th 2008 11:27PM
Thank you! My God, I'm so sick of people ripping on Sprint here...geez! I'll never leave them until I'm forced to...never in 7 years regretted using them!
drew @ Aug 5th 2008 11:35PM
right. like losing more money in the 4Q08 than you are worth is "turning things around" ...
losing 800K qwest customers to Big Red... rounding the bend.
thousands laid off... stores closing... upswing
credit rating changed to Junk Status... keeping up with the Joneses
selling all your towers for cash... wise move, who needs to own their own infrastructure?
Lost 20 Billion dollars in government contracts... back on their feet
cancelling 1200 customer contracts due to complaining too much... umm, no brainer; i hate money too, especially contractual funds
Highest churn rate in the industry... simply good business sense
launching FemtoCell... a page from Seidenberg's book, you can't expect to get cell phone service at your home
you are right... everyone else is wrong.
Poke4Christ @ Aug 6th 2008 9:27AM
I really hope you are right because I don't want to loose my SERO.
You can have my sero plan when you pry it from my COLD DEAD HANDS!!!!
BTW, I just started up in Jan and I want to upgrade to one of these or an android phone at the 1 year mark. Does that start a new 2yr contract or add on to my current one?
Makes Me Wonder @ Aug 5th 2008 11:58AM
Boy does this suck for Verizon users
BIG RED STRIKES AGAIN!!!!
08SI @ Aug 5th 2008 12:28PM
@fyreblazer
By crippling most of their phones, and selling "half of an HTC phone" compared to what Sprint will have , yes Verizon will win the battle..... Great thinking genius.
We know Sprint is not doing that great, but by offering devices like the touch diamond, and touch pro , they're on the right track.
fyreblazer @ Aug 21st 2008 3:16PM
And I guess you don't/can't read. I said specifically Verizon loses battle but is still winning the war.
shunterio @ Aug 5th 2008 12:49PM
o yea this is great my plan will be up wit sprint in oct buy then the touch pro. should be out or on its way out i was thinking bout the iphone but wit the 129.99 for unlimited data and talk 20 more bucks for unlimited txt. wit taxes that would be almost 170 a month thats crazy the touch pro is going to be great a great phone and for 99.99 bucks a month thats a steal i dont care what u say bout sprint 99 dollars a month for everything unlimited is great,i will be resigning up and getting the touch pro.
gutier @ Aug 5th 2008 2:41PM
dont do it!!! i had the Mogul and bought the iphone 3g....BIG MISTAKE!!. it was almost like downgrading. Im cancelling iPhone this week and going back to Mogul and be patient for Touch Pro...or Raphael.
Jared @ Aug 5th 2008 1:08PM
Where's my GSM?
Ed Hardy @ Aug 5th 2008 1:14PM
There has to be a confusion between internal code-names and product names. For all its faults, there's no way Verizon is going to make the gargantuan mistake of releasing a model named the Herman.

It is bad times for T-Mobile customers...
no HTC models announced yet (totally missing out on Pro and Diamond?)
-won't be US 3G compatible if imported from overseas
iPhone 3G un-unlockable with new firmware (all new iPhones will eventually have this new firmware OOB)
Hopefully Android and the HTC Dream are worth the wait
HTCTouchPro @ Aug 5th 2008 1:31PM
I'm not sure how reputable of a source a "leaked" internal **Sprint** document is when it comes to what a VZW phone is going to have.
As far as the Sprint fanboys go, I wouldn't be whoopin' and hollerin' until there are some more definitive specs on the VZW model (read: not a poorly xerox'd Sprint pre-sales sheet). And yes, I AM a Sprint user.
It doesn't make sense for HTC to manufacture two completely different models for Sprint and VZW, let alone strip features like the accelerometer or put in a slower processor. Maybe I'm completely wrong, but it doesn't sound like a great business decision on VZW or HTC's part.
gutier @ Aug 5th 2008 2:45PM
nawww...i think u r a vzw user...lol. and please someone correct me, manufacturers build phones a lil (or a lot sometimes!) bit different to meet carriers needs?
bigo1087 @ Aug 5th 2008 1:46PM
BTW FOR ALL AT&T CUSTOMERS LOOKING FOR THE TOUCH PRO GSM VERISON.........THE TOUCH PRO GSM VERSIONS ROM IS ALREADY LEAKED.......AND ITS BASICALLY A 99% CONFIRMATIOM THERE WILL BE A NA GSM VERISON.....
we just have to wait a little longer...so dont cry..just be happy that the gsm verison should prob be better than the crippled cmda verisons......i switched from verizon 3 years ago to grab the 8125 and i love my tilt...and now this is just another spectacular showing by verizon and their crap phones.....
The real question is Touch Pro or HTC/Sony Xperia 1........which one are you gunna get?
HTCTouchPro @ Aug 5th 2008 3:14PM
haha, wouldn't be so sure! Sprint user for 4+ years; just not so sure how much longer I'll be sticking around ;)
It may very well depend on whether VZW does in fact recieve a butchered device.
VzWMonsterous @ Aug 5th 2008 10:35PM
Stupid GSM / ATT / Idiot fan boys.
Verizon Does Not... omg I know Shocking!!! Lock out Wifi...
if it comes with wifi it has wifi... Like Att.... omg.... they do it to,,,,
Verizon locks out the gps function to load on it's Navigator program its capitalistic.... Don't like it? flash the rom you lazy stupid chimps or better yet don't waste my time spouting off on topics you know nothing about buy an Att phone with locked GPS and find out the hard way, Verizon Wireless loads UI onto all windows mobile devices but does not lock any feature outside of GPS same as Sprint, Att omg.. really??, and Alltel
TheJalAbides @ Aug 6th 2008 12:03AM
I love it when fanboys flame other fanboys.
V-Dub @ Aug 6th 2008 7:38AM
This article is insanely wrong. We are not calling them the Herman or Victor. They will be called the Diamond and Raphael (or Pro). They will both be released on 10/19. I'm not too fond of the price. I believe it will be either $399 AFTER a $100 MIR or $399 WITH a $100 MIR. I am not sure what VZW is going to call them as I have no access to their documentation
VZW and Sprint are both great. I've had both for years. Since I don't travel overseas, having a GSM device is irrelevant. Further, when it comes to DATA speeds, you won't beat Sprint's speed and VZW is not too far behind. GSM can forget it....not even close. But in the end, it's not about all this stuff, it's really about what works for each individual. Do your own Due Diligence and find out what network/phone/price plan fits YOU best.
Jesus SOliz @ Aug 9th 2008 1:15PM
Hey how accurate on the price know it kinda hard to know exactly but you are the first to say an estimated price. Please let me know any 411 on the pro,had the mogul very satisfied.Tried verizon last year when they launched the voyager piece of junk had 2 in 2 weeks then cancelled my contract.Been with sprint 6 years and yeah it has it's up's and down's but who doesn't.Ok well will wait for a reply...
John @ Aug 6th 2008 10:15AM
haha, jokes on VZW... they left in the screen and the mouthpeice which I will make FULL use of.
Buck @ Aug 8th 2008 4:11AM
I bet verizon takes the guts from their refurbed chocolates and throws them in the diamond and they'll still sell it for double what sprints asking.
Daniel @ Aug 13th 2008 4:10PM
There is no possible way the Verizon Version will have a slower prosessor considering the Diamond and touch pro are built on a 7201A MSM chipset the Prossesor, Ati Video and ram that the Diamond support are bare minimum Release specs for that chipset I think the document is speaking more to the touch that uses a 7200a MSM chipset
Alex @ Aug 20th 2008 6:59PM
OK OK ---
1. IF Verizon releases it on let's say Oct 2. -- does that mean it will be in the Verizon stores on Oct 2?
2. Does it go on sale online first? Will they have Press Release to announce the release date?
3. Is this going to be one of those phones that once released we will still have to wait for three months?
Help me out here....
Al
CanUHearmeN0w @ Sep 26th 2008 12:54PM
HTC: Hmm... there are complaints from users that the Touch pro is a little sluggish at 528Mhz, so I don't think we can't cut costs on the device.
VZW: Naw, go ahead and put a 400Mhz CPU in there, it'll be fine. And you said we can save $5 by cutting the RAM down to 128MB from 256MB? Is there a 64MB option?
The Blackberry Storm's not VGA, so I'm counting on Verizon bringing out a FULL SPEC Touch Pro (raphael) to market to keep me as a customer. I love the service, but my wife hates the prices. So the only reason I'm able to keep us on Verizon is because I prefer the speed and reliability of the network. What good is a network if you don't have a decent device to access it on?
Come on Verizon, you already screwed us over when you didn't release the Windows Mobile 6 ROM for the original Motorola Q... If the Touch Pro is FUBAR, then we're going to have to look elsewhere for service.
David @ Oct 2nd 2008 12:43PM
I'm not sure about this but I talked with a Sprint sales guy and he said that the HTC Touch Pro won't work on Verizon network ..that it wasn't compatible? I don't know if that's true or not? Anyhow i'm a verizon customer and i'm sick of them. I'm happy to switch to Sprint to get a better phone, nicer customer service, etc.
Ben @ Oct 28th 2008 5:29PM
Actually as a consumer, the service at sprint is HORRIBLE. I do happen to have a corporate account which has saved me from the hell of the sprint stores. To be honest, I've had ATT, Verizon, and Sprint, all at the same time and they all suck, but I think Sprint packs in more minutes/data for a better price. And to be objective, Verizon's network IS killer! The word is that the HTC Touch Pro was due on Sprint 10/19... After multiple calls to customer service there's still no word as to a new release date. And legally SPRINT and verizon both are required to give leaving customers the unlock sequence to make the phones work on the other network. Only CDMA phones will work on Sprint, Verizon, and All Tell...
Hasgoth @ Oct 30th 2008 5:13PM
Is it true that the Verizon Diamond will only support microSD not SDHC? if thats true, its a waste of space, and can't compete with the iPhone. Maybe if they had an iPhone nano it could hang.
