I'd put a CDMA radio in it!!!
Dan S @ Aug 2nd 2008 9:50AM
Is putting it on Tmobile an option? ATT isn't so good in my part of town.
Beastage @ Aug 2nd 2008 10:21AM
My god another iphone promotion item in disguise? enough is enough!
Dave @ Aug 2nd 2008 1:30PM
Yeah I think the #1 thing I would change is the amount of ass-kissing this phone gets by Engadget
murty @ Aug 2nd 2008 6:51PM
yep it sure is, im sick of hearing about it
GADGETADDICTED @ Aug 2nd 2008 10:53AM
I would have made quite a few changes:
1. Multimedia messaging capability..WTF? Most of the entry level phones do that
2. Easier Ringtone Control/Downloads. Should be able to just save MPG ringtones to a ringtone folder...I HATE the ITUNES monopoly
3. Higher Ringtone Volume..I miss 1/2 my calls if my phone's in my purse or across the room
4. Voice Dialing/Command Software that is superior quality, not like the aftermarket downloads that stink. (good meaning like what I had on my BlackberryCurve that I sold to get this highly coveted device!)
5. Higher Resolution Photos/Video with flash. 2mp??? Come on this is 2008!
6. Changeable Themes, not just the opening wallpaper
7. It should come with leather case and car charger for Pete's sake!! My BBerry provided a case at least, and it did NOT cost $299
Basically for the price this should be one TRICKED OUT phone. It's lacking in some areas. I think they're saving some of these options for the next version.

u guys r so envious of this phone, u just use your other phone and keep coming back to this page wishin u had an iPhone just to complain. iPhone needs to get some stuff straightned out, but no phone has the browser capabilties iPhone has. iPhone loosen up, give people more freedom with your product and you won't have any competition
Steven Moore @ Aug 2nd 2008 10:54AM
Allow downloads of podcasts directly to the iphone and at least 32gb of space.
MissinCalls @ Aug 2nd 2008 11:01AM
A "vibrate for x minutes" feature where you can set the phone to vibrate for the course of a meeting, but have it switch back to your default ringtone afterward.
Too many times leaving phone on vibrate/silent long after meeting has ended.
Michael @ Aug 2nd 2008 11:57AM
I would make it a Nokia.
Fernando @ Aug 2nd 2008 12:57PM
Seconded (for the trolling)
RK @ Aug 2nd 2008 12:05PM
Better build quality inspections and more plentiful at launch. Way to long a wait for something that they had months to prepare for. It is still nearly impossible to get one.
Grant T Martin @ Aug 2nd 2008 12:21PM
give it a better camera. that thing is a piece.
Chris @ Aug 2nd 2008 12:57PM
1.Verizon
2.VGA display
3.MMS
Then I would buy one.
blah blah @ Aug 2nd 2008 2:06PM
Put this phone on Verizon network.
waynow @ Aug 2nd 2008 2:30PM
i would give it proper buttons. touch screens are stupid and hard to keep clean
ThisGuy @ Aug 2nd 2008 2:37PM
I would include a garbage can with it, because thats where the iPhone belongs. Engadget, quit kissing the iPhone's ass already. But really, this phone is garbage! Ive heard reports of the phone overheating and melting that cheap plastic they put in the back and Ive read that the cheap plastic back cover has been cracking (which can more easily be seen on the 16gb/white model). Thats great....I spend more money on the white model just so I can show pple the how the iphone cracks. Ive had enough of this cheap phone!!!!!!!! Should have waited and got an Nokia E71.....anyone have an E71 that they want to trade for a 16gb iphone 3G?
boss-hogg @ Aug 2nd 2008 5:06PM
I love my e71! Its a great device only prob no 3.5 headphone jack. other than that its really slick. I get 3g data for only 15$ a month on at&t...oh... i also can use it as a bluetooth modem
jrr @ Aug 2nd 2008 3:18PM
1) allow user ringtones to be assigned to more than incoming calls (text plz kthx)
2) copy/paste
3) more apps need to have widescreen modes
4) a feature to display my name and contact info while the phone is locked (in case i lose it an an honest person happens by) (i'd prefer to write my name in the battery door, but we know battery doors ain't gunna happen)
5) give the OS control over app volume. this is usually the case, but monkey ball has its own volume setting that's unaffected by the global one
6) tether for data (i look forward to watching what happens of this netshare thing)
7) disk mode. ipods have this. why not phone?
8) a little loop thing for me to attach a wrist strap
tim @ Aug 2nd 2008 8:31PM
Everything. No mms ,mandatory data plans that dont include text or picture messaging( oh I forgot, there is no picture messaging) phone bills that cost twice as much as most at&t customers pay. quit letting steve jobs run at&t so we can let some other manufactures launch some phones and maybe get even a fraction of the advertising this thing gets. actually, I agree, just get rid of it, and get steve jobs and all his restrictive high money b.s. away from at&t. at&t should be ashamed they have let this man take over there company, because he Has. and yes engadget, stop kissing his ass with all the non stop free press. the phone costs twice as much, and everything accosiated with it costs twice as much and every other company is getting the shaft by att because of it. its not twice as good. I never thought id see the day when apple dictated ma bells every move. you should be ashamed att. get a pair!
shutupandletmego @ Aug 3rd 2008 12:56AM
How about we have a "How would you change Engadget?" poll?
1) Fire the Jobs' ass-kissers and bring some sanity (read objectivity) to tech blogs.
Verizon Tech @ Aug 3rd 2008 3:13AM
Uhm We don't want this phone are you kidding... We have better phones than this plus you can make calls with our network.
s @ Aug 3rd 2008 1:42PM
i am sure that you don't want this phone. verizon would love to have the higher arpu. don't pretend that verizon doesn't care about the bottom line. this phone gets people to spend way more on a monthly plan. as soon as they can, verizon will carry it.
Fadi Alsaidi @ Aug 3rd 2008 3:12PM
you got love Verizon people they always take cheap shots at att. what makes Verizon so good I had them in the past and they suck big time in my home town. they do show that I have a better coverage than my att but they hardly work anywhere, and around 12:00 you cant hardly hear anyone on a call. Sooooo please Verizon cry babies get a life. I don't have an I phone and I might not even get one but they have the best browser and OS I have ever seen. as far as the double price rate plans and expensive data package !!!!!!are you serious!! I pay the same for a smart phone plus I pay $10 extra for my GPS soooo don't say crap about stuff you don't know...its the same rate plan as far as voice and the same rate plan as far as text and data for smart phones. Please no more crap about the MMS becuase it is not even a major issue for any smart phone user..besides I remember the day when people used to complain how att or t-mobile locked there ability to email pictures instead of using MMS...what happen now????? the only way people can be happy if the dirt fells their mouth in the grave...now lets see something like constructive criticism. the plastic is cheap and cracking sound like one of them and the ability to tether is another good criticism...I can add to this by saying a more open application development attitude from apple.
Brown @ Aug 12th 2008 10:16AM
Amen Fadi...Amen!!
Nvmkpk @ Aug 3rd 2008 4:40AM
1. Port backend EAS implementation from windows mobile
2. Add user replacable battery
johdaxx @ Aug 4th 2008 2:28PM
How about a full implementation of Bluetooth?
Srini @ Aug 4th 2008 2:42PM
This poll is about IPhone. why comment about "how to change Engadget" or "how good is Nokia" etc?
Ricky G @ Aug 5th 2008 1:05AM
How about apple starts learning how to carry units in their stores. Don't try to argue that apple are great marketers, i understand that, but they can't sell what they don't have. I wonder if engadget gets a peanut everytime they say "Iphone" or "Apple" on this website. I would not even be surprised.
