HTC report says Touch Diamond is coming to Sprint this month
Don't rule out the possibility that this is a complete and utterly disgusting fib, but a recent writeup in The China Post about HTC's financial situation very clearly states when the hotly-anticipated Touch Diamond is coming to Sprint: this month. If you're looking for the play-by-play, the article proclaims that the "company released its Diamond phone in Asia in June and will begin selling the handset through Sprint Nextel Corp. in August." Look, we've seen a CDMA version of this thing donning Sprint garb, we've watched it fall into the capable hands of the FCC and we know it has to arrive sometime. If all of this doesn't add up to Sprint getting the Touch Diamond in August, well, we'll let you do the math.[Thanks, Sumit]

Awesome, now when's the Touch Pro coming? Thats the one I am really looking forward to. Although if the Diamond had a expansion slot I'd be all over it.
Johnson @ Aug 2nd 2008 3:39PM
I'm with you on that. Although this is a great thing, the Touch Pro is the one for me.

I am soooo salivating for this to be released! Can't believe the US price will be $1000--I've been waiting sooo long. Hope the price will be ~$600-700. Anyone know what the date will be? Will AT&T support this phone? IPhone...look out!
beej @ Aug 2nd 2008 3:42PM
Agreed, hurry up with some Touch Pro news, HTC!!!

Or it still could be in September and the Chinese report might have been off by a couple of days.

Diamond over Omnia:
VGA display (2.8-inch, 480 x 640 pixels)
TouchFLO 3D Home screen (better than Omnia's Touchwiz UI)
Nicer design
More compact body
Lighter weight
Active magnetic stylus (Omnia has no stylus slot)
Touch-sensitive scroll wheel (better than Omnia's optical joystick)
Better sunlight legibility (by a small margin)
Standard miniUSB slot (as opposed to Samsung's proprietary custom plus)
Dedicated graphics chip with 64MB memory
Comes with the amusing Teeter game (uses the accelerometer)
Has pre-installed YouTube client and MP3 Trimmer application for ringtones
Better video playback performance

Does anyone notice the creature to the left of the htc logo, under the screen?
pdusk88 @ Aug 4th 2008 12:20AM
Yeah, what the hell is that.
Joe @ Aug 2nd 2008 6:00PM
Man, I'd love to get the Samsung Omnia for Sprint instead. Diamond has 4GB internal storage, but no microSD. Touch Pro has microSD but no internal storage. Samsung Omnia has 8gb/16gb internal storage AND microSD!!
And no, I really rather not go to AT&T because of higher data plan cost and because they don't insure their WinMo headsets =(
Fadi Alsaidi @ Aug 3rd 2008 9:28AM
att does insure all devices except the Iphone...they started doing that a couple of months ago.
Brandon @ Aug 2nd 2008 7:09PM
Sorry for the misinformation you got here, it isn't coming out in August. I work for Sprint, you guys will have to wait until September to grab it.
cdkb1977 @ Aug 2nd 2008 7:23PM
Nice!
Carly @ Aug 2nd 2008 8:03PM
I work for Best Buy and it is in our system showing we will be getting it on August 17th
yanks86 @ Aug 2nd 2008 9:24PM
From everything I am reading online, I am getting the feeling Best Buy will be getting it Aug 17 and Sprint stores won't have it until Sept 2. It would make as the conflicting reports make sense.
champ22 @ Aug 2nd 2008 10:01PM
ahhhhhh who cares we want to PRO man......if these guys haven't received the email yet it reads if you new phone doesn't come with a full keyboard no one will care...but im sure that email hasn't been pushed out to these ever so clever develop teams out there ...i mean it is kinda hard to push a email to a rock.
Godfa7h3r @ Aug 2nd 2008 11:14PM
I can confirm Best Buy Mobile's systems say August 17th for the Sprint Touch Diamond.
@Joe
You can get insurance on ATT smartphones now. Have been able to for a few months.
Smart Guy @ Aug 3rd 2008 1:33AM
hey, at least its its coming out soon right?
bucagator @ Aug 3rd 2008 6:22AM
The recording that answers for all Sprint stores says that every store will be closed on August 17 for special training and that they will resume regular hours on the 18th.
Matt Shah @ Aug 3rd 2008 12:34PM
Not to disappoint HTC fans. The diamond was delayed about a month ago. Originally Sprint stores were looking at it for 9/2. Look for it mid october and look for the Touch Pro to launch the same day along with a boat load of other phones for the holidays. I guess the Chinese are wrong once again...I can't say anything more, but just don't bet on aug/sept.

Omnia over Diamond:
Bigger, though lower-res display (3.2", 240 x 400 pixels)
Has a better, more solid build and finish
Almost double battery life
Better CPU performance (by a nice margin according to software benchmarks)
Quad-band GSM support (Diamond has two versions to cover all the four bands)
microSD card slot (Diamond has none)
8 or 16 GB of storage memory (Diamond has 4GB)
Much better 5 megapixel camera (better processing, higher resolution, face and smile detection, geotagging)
TV-out (Diamond lacks that)
Landscape QWERTY keyboard (Diamond has one but only in browser)
Auto screen rotation is available in all applications and can be switched off
Comes with DivX video support (Diamond has none, but DivX players can be installed)
Has pre-installed a custom Alarms app, a Video editor and a unit converter

The way i see it the Omnia is superior in all catagories except Screen resolution, No CDMA version and price
Joe @ Aug 3rd 2008 7:51PM
I can probably live without the VGA screen for now, since I don't watch too many movies on my phone. I use it mostly for music and GPS, and both can substantially benefit from the 16gb space
PMP imp @ Aug 4th 2008 10:19AM
Look for it in September/October. Sprint still needs to get a handle on the Instinct. I'll be demoing it next month!
Peter F @ Aug 4th 2008 4:32PM
If they implement QChat, I will squeal like a teenager @ a Backstreet Boys concert and start camping at the store. I would put IPhone lovers to shame.
