Just like the
original, AT&T now has a so-called TAP (Text Accessibility Plan) all set up for the iPhone 3G that'll offer unlimited messaging and data to folks with disabilities. Interested parties do need to fill out a qualification form, meaning that your average able-bodied customer isn't going to be able to get in on the service -- and unfortunately, it's undergone the same $10 facelift that the regular plans have suffered, meaning subscribers will now be paying $50 a month ($65 for enterprise use) instead of the $40 that was being charged previously. By the way, we're shaking our fists at the heavens right now, cursing inflation, market forces, and corporate greed.

Meanwhile I'm sitting on the Sprint Sero Plan and paying 30 bucks a month for 500 minutes, unlimited text, and unlimited 3.5g internet. Yeah I'm stuck with the Mogul and don't get the iPhone love, but that's cool. When the first Android phones come out on Sprint I'll switch to those and be even better off.

Since when did EV-DO become 3.5G?
Poke4Christ @ Jul 31st 2008 1:41PM
Since they added Rev A. Yeah, it's not all that much faster, but most people I've seen are calling it 3.5g. Also, not all phones have Rev A Compatibility. My Mogul does.

I won't hate on SERO because it is the best deal in wireless..I have the SERO500 plan and its a better deal than my AT&T ERP lines.
The Mogul (aka AT&T 8525) is 2 year old hardware and has since been replaced by the tilt (8925). See, thats the problem with Sprint, they don't have good phones. It's well and good that Sprint will eventually get Andriod phones when it's released, but in the interim they haven't had a unique model to sell. And you can save your breath about the Instinct, Sprint is still expected to have lost 1m customers in the 2nd quarter.

I'm not going to defend Sprint from a buisness standpoint. They've been very stupid. I switched because it was an amazing deal other than being out of service while being in the boonies that one time (I can live with it) service has been fine here in Fort Worth, TX. Signal strenght isn't as good but it's satisfactory. My mogul was practiclly free (maybe moreso) because they sent me a $350 rebate. I don't know if that was right because I think I paid 300 and I thought I was just supposed to get a $100 rebate.
Finally, on phones I don't think sprint is that bad off. they had the touch witch was pretty good. They are about to get the Touch Diamond which will be one of the first VGA screen phones (probably before other carriers). Also, they will probably be the first Android carrier since they and T-mobile are the main partners and T-mobile has 3G issues.

Engadget should change it's name to EniPhone.

Agrees completely. Seriously how much more do I have to read about the iPhone? Doesn't AT&T have any other phones?

Yeah, but Sprint sucks.
TheGasMan @ Jul 31st 2008 9:57AM
So does AT&T.
Brad @ Jul 31st 2008 10:41AM
which carrier doesn't suck? they're all corporate bastards that believe in nickel and diming they're customers. that's how it goes.
deafclimber @ Jul 31st 2008 10:35AM
AT&T TAP is great. i am very happy with my at&t tilt. they treat me very well. Sprint sucks...
shunterio @ Jul 31st 2008 11:10AM
thats rite sprint sucks the way the have unlimited everything for 99.99 bucks. they suck so much ass when att have the iphone unlimited talk for 129.99 add unlimited txt for 20.00 more dollars. thats rite sprint sucks for having a larger 3g network then att thats rite sprint can kiss my ass....
Chris G @ Jul 31st 2008 1:26PM
I wish I could even make/receive calls in the 4th largest city in the country (Houston, TX) reliably on Sprint. I gladly paid the ETF to leave them after 6 months. Pointless to have a phone you can't even use when driving around to your clients.

Companies don't care about their customers - they only care about their shareholders. So, buy stock in every company you use and get back the dividends. You'll easily get 14% of the money they are overcharging you back.
dan @ Jul 31st 2008 12:24PM
wow someone likes sprint?! do you know why their prices undercut the competition? because they're a joke and, they are forced to. they are bleeding customers left and right, at their already low prices. they get laughed at now, imaging how much more they would get made fun of if they charged verizon's and at&t's prices! its only a matter of time that something drastic happens. i hope you're prepared :)
Periks19 @ Aug 1st 2008 1:25PM
While your happy getting raped by either Verizon or ATT other people enjoy a better deal paying much less. Specially if you have ATT paying for overpriced data with the coverage they have is a joke compared to Sprint. So yeah Sprint is getting laughed at because they have a better 3g coverage than ATT. Sprint was bleeding customers yes but I think we are all in for a surprised when we see the turnaround next quarter.
And I don't like any carrier I don't own any of them but I am just stating facts about the prices, but again if you are rich or like getting raped by their overpriced plans than thats you, I think a lot of regular folks just take the best deal on prices and of course the carrier that has good to better signal in their area.
shunterio @ Jul 31st 2008 1:37PM
its not i love sprint a deal is a deal if everyone else has 99 bucks for jus talk and sprint got 99 bucks fo everything thats a steal and the have great phones. i dont gave a dam bout sprint my pockets r happy wit 99 bucks a month.

Ahhhh "Corporate Greed," the side effect of morals being removed from business decisions.
Dan @ Jul 31st 2008 5:59PM
That's the luxury of making a vastly superior product - you can charge whatever the hell you want. Meanwhile, Nokia's dropping prices...
