Verizon has its own data success story in Q2 earnings
AT&T isn't having all the fun when it comes to subscribers' newfound love for data. Verizon has published the nitty gritty details of its second quarter earnings this week, revealing that data ARPU is up some 31.3 percent year over year -- undoubtedly a reflection on devices like the Glyde and XV6900 that are making email and quick visits to Engadget Mobile during morning meetings not just possible, but usably so. What's more, net adds totaled 1.5 million in the quarter, besting AT&T's 1.3 million -- not to say it needs to, considering the Alltel acquisition will end up giving 'em more than enough ammo to propel back into the number one spot, assuming that it ends up getting approved.[Via mocoNews]

(sarcasm) they'd have more if they got the iPhone (/sarcasm)
there's the proof, kids.... the iPhone does not a successful company make.

But AT&T has the iPhone and it is successful... so... yes, it does. It's just not the *only* way to make a company successful.

Sounds like 1.3 million is pretty successful. Just not as good as Verizon....BFD.

@ Gas - the iPhone doesn't make a company successful. AT&T has it and has continued to do well, this is true. But VZW is catching up to, and will soon overcome, AT&T total customer base WITHOUT it.
@ erics - is IS a BFD is you consider all the "the iPhone is the best thing ever invented, even better than sliced bread and singles cheese!" statements out there.
Bottomline is this: despite its' missing functionality that lower priced/featured phones have, the iPhone is a good device. I've never said that it wasn't. I'm just saying, as have countless others, that it's not the BEST device and it's not the ONLY device. People invest in overall quality and reliability, the devices aren't the deciding factor. They may play a part, but most people don't need and/or want a full-function phone- they just need and/or want a reliable signal... and VZW leads the pack right now.
