Killer phone! I cant wait for this thing to launch with Sprint!
Dave @ Jul 29th 2008 9:36PM
There is an ATT Radio for this already on the web, so good luck with Sprint getting this before ATT...
Razza @ Jul 29th 2008 7:41PM
Looks the goods! For those interested the review of software and GUI is also up now @ http://www.theunwired.net/?item=videoview-htc-touch-pro-software-and-gui-hands-on
retro77 @ Jul 29th 2008 7:48PM
Hopefully VZW will get this.
gutier @ Jul 29th 2008 7:52PM
I had the Mogul and just downgraded to iPhone 3G. Now i have both carriers (sprint-ATT) and need to cancel my contract with either one. I wonder WHEN this awesome toy will be on sale and which carrier will have it because i am not sure if i should cancel sprint before august 8th and keep the iPhone or wait a lil' bit longer and get the touch pro...
Loved the mogul but it smells like old now, thats why i got the iphone 3g, but at the same time i miss all the good stuff that the mogul offers (and when compared with the iPhone 3G, the Mogul is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better)
John @ Jul 29th 2008 8:14PM
Twice the Resolution, over twice the RAM, hardware qwerty, better camera with flash and autofocus, better browser, more applications and application freedom. Sprint seems to be getting this device either mid-October or early November (some rumor suggests September but i doubt that)
No brainer right?
Jack @ Jul 29th 2008 9:04PM
AT&T will have the Touch Pro by Christmas. I'd forget about Sprint and just stay with AT&T.
Gamer90 @ Jul 30th 2008 1:29AM
The news of both the Touch Diamond and Touch Pro were on SPRINT internal documents BEFORE any other carrier. You can bet your ass both devices (A Sprint version of the Touch Diamond is already being tested and pictures have been put up on various sites) will be here before Christmas.
klitorisaurus @ Jul 30th 2008 3:14AM
Well if I wanted to tie a threatening note around it and toss it through somebodies window I might think about owning this. For now, I think I'll stick with the sleek, polished, and most importantly, pocket friendly, iPhone 3G. And before you flame me for being a fanboy, just remember who but 15 a's in "way."
Though I'm sure, like every phone on the planet, it has much better battery life than the 3G :-(
gutier @ Jul 31st 2008 5:54PM
Thanks a lot guys!! I really appreciatte ur suggestions and comments. gonna miss mogul i'll but keeping sprint contract (my dad will use it for few months). I'll keep using iphone 3g and waiting until sep-oct-nov-dec-? for at&t or sprint to offer the touch pro. i just love it...
SuperSexyErik (^_^) @ Jul 29th 2008 7:59PM
i def love the pull out keyboard.
but the screen looks kinda small, anybody know what the dimensions are?
John @ Jul 29th 2008 8:15PM
2.8" (same size as Mogul, Touch, and Tilt) but VGA resolution.
SuperSexyErik (^_^) @ Jul 29th 2008 8:43PM
2.8 isnt bad. is it touch or no?
Dave @ Jul 29th 2008 9:35PM
@SuperSexyErik
if you weren't busy fawning over the 3G iPhone you would realize that this is 10x the phone that the 3G iPhone is and look at the specs somewhere...I'll just paste what was already posted above:
Twice the Resolution, over twice the RAM, hardware qwerty, better camera with flash and autofocus, better browser, more applications and application freedom. Sprint seems to be getting this device either mid-October or early November (some rumor suggests September but i doubt that)
No brainer right?
SuperSexyErik (^_^) @ Jul 29th 2008 9:46PM
uhhh... just for the rec everyone, he brought iphone into this...not me.. i was actually being interested in something else for once.
First, iphone is $200, im willing to bet this will be over $400. so shove that somewhere.
but now that your idiotic self has made this statement, lets come back in few months and compare sales shall we? i know for a fact iphone will outsell this. weather you think its cool or not, and you can throw all the specs you want at me, it will not outsell iphone.
so go crawl in a hole.
SuperSexyErik (^_^) @ Jul 29th 2008 10:34PM
uhmm. by the way, i just watched the vid, and this thing is a joke!
you have to use a stylus? uhm.. ok? thats was cool back in the 90's.
only 4 gb? why do i have to purchase extra memory? that makes no sense. ($400 for phone plus money for extra memory?)
my next gripe, winmo? i would be scared to turn it on. for the sake of everything, you better hope they get android to run on it, thats its only hope.
Third, twice the resolution? you pulled that out of your butt didnt you? i would be surprised if it even matched the iphone's beautiful display, show me the proof. until then this phone is cool, but not an iphone killer. sorry.
John @ Jul 29th 2008 10:40PM
Touch Pro has a VGA screen. iPhone has an HVGA Screen
HVGA means Half VGA, just like QVGA means Quarter VGA
Sizes: VGA=640x480. HVGA=480x320
The iPhone physical screen is larger. 3.2" vs 2.8" but its form factor is also larger.
So the Touch Pro has a smaller screen with twice the resolution.
SuperSexyErik (^_^) @ Jul 29th 2008 10:49PM
sorry but i cant understand that... any chance you can put it into ppi ?
Kelan McGuire @ Jul 29th 2008 11:02PM
The iPhone screen is 3.5" not 3.2". A lot of people don't even know what they are talking about but they act like experts.
John @ Jul 29th 2008 11:34PM
So all of my factually correct statements about VGA are null and void as well as any knowledge about smartphones or the iphone because i gave a slightly wrong screen size? Either way, its still larger than a 2.8" screen, and about the same size as my old Dell Axim. Personally I dont want a device that fat with such a large screen to be my phone.
SuperSexyErik (^_^) @ Jul 30th 2008 12:47AM
lol....uhm?
you dont want a beautiful large screen? thats a first ..
lets all go back to 5 inch tv screens as well?
can all please move into the future... these phones with small screens are out of date.
Johnson @ Jul 30th 2008 1:36AM
I'm going to wait for a 10" screen...that would be better right?
Besides I've seen you comment on this phone before and you try to slam it everytime.
Just stop...you're acting like a child. Be glad that someone is trying to beat the iphone, it's better for all of us.
SuperSexyErik (^_^) @ Jul 30th 2008 2:47AM
"trying" to beat the iPhone is the right word. Secessful? Nope :)
Blad3 @ Jul 30th 2008 7:34AM
wow guess what erik. $2000 for an iphone over the life of the contract. mmmm yea not going to happen. iphone = ok but at&t = crappy network with crappier pricing plans.
hmm lets see, $400 (possibly) for the touch pro on a $30 sero plan = $1120.
sprint ftw. pull something else out of your butt.
John @ Jul 30th 2008 7:57AM
How does it fail at beating the iphone? Is it that the iphone can multitask and this one cant? The iphone has a larger camera and higher resolution screen? More RAM and a faster processor? Removable battery? Upgradable storage? A limited SDK? TV-Out capability? A2DP? Copy and Paste? A more feature capable browser? Oh wait... these are all things the Touch Pro has over the iPhone...
And yes.. I do want a smaller screen for my phone. I am not against big beautiful screens.. i have a 22" widescreen for my desktop and a 42" HDTV. It doesnt need to be that big for a phone. Having used PDAs and smartphones for years now, with large VGA screens, i prefer something smaller.
Paco @ Jul 30th 2008 7:58PM
Didn't the original touch outsell the original iPhone?
Cameron @ Jul 29th 2008 8:44PM
WHY is the Z key where the Y key ought to be? Please tell me that's just a modification for Germany.
PeterF @ Jul 29th 2008 9:04PM
The US version will have a US keyboard, don't worry about that.
Cassini @ Jul 29th 2008 9:10PM
HTC did well with this "Batman" phone. This thing is black and beautiful, and the next one I'm buying. But close to $1000 USD unlocked is... well, ouch.
The North American version will have the "Z" and "Y" buttons arranged where they should be (well, at least for us over on this side of the pond (and whomever else)).
I'm also hoping that what's being done for the Diamond Touch in terms of the HSPA radios (850 and 1900MHz bands) will be brought over to the Touch Pro when it's brought over here.
If HTC manages to do that (quad GSM/EDGE and tri or at least NA-dual-3.5G), then it seems (at least from all we've seen online) that we'd be hard-pressed to find anything to complain about.
Can't hardly wait.
John @ Jul 29th 2008 10:46PM
$1000 unlocked is when you pay the UK price for it. When devices are sold in Europe and the US the numerical value is the same, but the symbol in front of it chances. Expect to pay $550 for an unlocked phone, not £550 equivalent in US$.
champ22 @ Jul 29th 2008 11:35PM
@ john:
if you find the phone on a UK site and they list it for 550 ....its wines up being 856.57 american and with S&H your gonna drop a grand any- who so just sit tight and let the google search images keep those waiting on this phone warm at night
Robert Turner @ Jul 29th 2008 9:16PM
Nope. The Z and Y because they want to screw with your mind! Everything in this phone is perfect, and as we all know, every phone must have at least one draw back, this is it....
If youre smart enough to know it was a german thing, then you didnt have to ask.
Famous by Marital-Association @ Jul 29th 2008 11:39PM
If you read the article...
"HTC Touch Pro also supports quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE but also dualband UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (900/2100 MHz) up to 7.2 Mbps for HSDPA and 2 Mbps for HSUPA. Other features include Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, WiFi b/g, an inbuilt GPS receiver as well as an FM radio."
Just so you know, T-Mobile owns the 2100 waves in the USA right now.
So I think we have a good idea where it's headed!
xman @ Jul 30th 2008 4:23PM
Correction: T-Mobile owns the 1700mhz band in the U.S. and only a tiny piece of that 2100mhz. So, T-Mobile will not be the carrier in the U.S. Of course the phone will work fine in Europe for that 2100mhz spectrum
PeterF @ Jul 30th 2008 2:56AM
This is definitely coming to AT&T. Look here!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=410945
An AT&T beta radio has been leaked, meaning AT&T is preparing this thing for their network!
Eastman @ Jul 30th 2008 7:30AM
I was handling one of these without the flip keyboard and this aint much different .. so one word :
PLASTIC !!! and it feels like cheap plastic ..
many keep mentioning the iPhone ..
You can not compare them although the new iPhone 3G is plastic too but not the screen and u dont need a real keybord or a (wtf) stylus ..
this device lives in its own world and there it prob does fair well !!
swl @ Jul 30th 2008 11:44AM
From the linked video above (http://www.theunwired.net/?item=videoview-htc-touch-pro-software-and-gui-hands-on) it doesn't look like the stylus is required to navigate the phone.
David @ Jul 30th 2008 11:59AM
This is the best phone ever. I hope it can run android when it comes out. WM7 looks sweet too
Rage @ Jul 30th 2008 2:33PM
@Blad
The $30 SERO plan actually got axed a while ago, so even if it is on Sprint, and you somehow finagle their NEW employee plan, it is 60 bucks a month for the same SERO plan you were referring to. So actually the price becomes pretty much the same between this and the iphone. Once you take ATT network vs. Sprint network into account and your preferences in hardware/software, a decision on the "better" package can be made. Personally, ATT has great service where I live, while Sprint does not. I was planning on waiting for a new HTC on Sprint and then they axed their SERO plan, a.k.a. the only thing they had going for them -- it was the deal-breaker for me.
Nal @ Jul 30th 2008 5:48PM
When exactly is this coming out? I'd so trade my Instinct in for this..
Nal @ Jul 30th 2008 5:48PM
For Sprint I mean**
John @ Jul 31st 2008 4:58PM
October 20th or early November is the best guess these days...
Mark @ Jul 30th 2008 7:16PM
It is really kind of cute how every post about a new phone gets comments about the iPhone. The iPhone is a decent device but that is all. It is not great or amazing. In fact when a company releases a product and then a year later releases the same product with 3G you should be upset not happy. They could have made the iPhone 3G a year ago but they were sloppy and lazy. If you are going to put out a follow up product at least make several major improvements to the one from a year ago. If you want to drop phones unrelated to the post at hand into every post then why not bring up Nokia's? A top of the line Nokia, say the N96, has better stats then any phone listed in this post. So what if it doesn't have touch screen, touch screens are over rated and will never replace a keypad. Sure nokia is releasing touch screen devices soon but thats just because the market is asking for them. When nokia does release their high end touch screen phones, note not the express 5800, it will smash any other phone out there. That means the iPhone, Instinct, Dare, Diamond whatever else you can throw at it. You know why? Symbian. Don't believe me then ask the 55% of world wide users on the symbian OS. These arguments are irrelevant and seem to always bring up the iPhone.
NuShrike @ Aug 4th 2008 9:22PM
Unfortunately, much like the Diamond, the Touch Pro will score at the BOTTOM of the heap in GLBenchmark versus most Nokias, Sony Ericssons, and even the iPhone.
http://www.glbenchmark.com/result.jsp
It's just what happens when you combine HTC and Qualcomm.
