Michael Dell hints at smartphone plans in recent interview

Rumors of Dell playing a role in the smartphone industry have been around for what seems like ages, but each time the fire dies down, another can of lighter fluid emerges to get us all wondering again. In a recent interview with Om Malik, the bigwig had more than a few interesting things to say on the computing industry as a whole. Still, what intrigued us wasn't the talk about being a founder or changing up Dell's game in order to rebound -- no, it was Michael's remarks on the handset sector. When asked if there was a "desire" on its part to work with Android or Symbian, Mr. Dell stated that the company "is kind of working on that," although it wasn't ready to "publicly disclose" plans. Granted, he also asked us "not to expect anything anytime soon" when referring to a phone, but would you really expect any CEO with a trick up his / her sleeve to say anything different?

I don't expect any phones from Dell, before WM7 hits.
And Nvidia's Tegra.
I mean what industry giant would go on board a train in the final days of its generation? Maybe when WM7, Android and Tegra-esque processors hit.

First Balmer, and now this jackoff?! How badly do these tossers want to be Steve Jobs??!! The dPhone, the msPhone, and the hits just keep coming. Where's Sun's jPhone?

^Name another phone that Steve Jobs came out with that was successful, besides the iphone? I could name a couple of misses that you probably didn't hear about because it failed. Yes, the iphone is a huge success and changing the world of cellular phone for the better, but please don't make it seem like Steve Jobs is the only one who can make a breakthrough phone with success, smh.

It will be very hard to beat the iPhone. However, if Dell built a smartphone that included VGA-out and a great docking station to provide connectivity to a full size monitor and keyboard, this could be a Nirvana Phone !
