Here's an interesting factoid to chew on: the cycle between the
first rumors that the Palm 755p was coming to Verizon and its
launch was longer than the window of time between launch and sunset. Just think about that for a second. Seriously. Verizon has reported to Palm Infocenter that it's officially decommissioning the Palm OS-based smartphone -- the only in Verizon's lineup with strong ties to Palm's old-school industrial design -- in favor of the
Centro, a smaller, friendlier, more consumer-oriented device. It seems like Big Red might be at risk of alienating some Garnet-loving business customers who aren't interested in carrying a device with a keyboard as small as the Centro's, and honestly, doesn't it feel like the 755p has at least a few more months of life yet? Or are we crazy?

*yawn*
still has keyboard
snowenloe @ Jul 23rd 2008 8:39PM
While this phone is way outdated, bulky and just plain ugly, ALL real smartphones have a keyboard smart guy. We all know you love Apple so save it. Your constant fanboyism is..., well..."yawn." Get a life .
SuperSexyErik (^_^) @ Jul 23rd 2008 9:01PM
You mean they did have keyboards... Back in the 90's.
Welcome to 2008 snowenlow. Buy a real mobile platform.
Dylan @ Jul 23rd 2008 9:55PM
Snowenloe, the blackberry touchscreen phone's right around the corner. time to change tunes and conform like your brotherin, also you may want to set your slaves free and switch to public transit vs horse drawn.
snowenloe @ Jul 24th 2008 8:12AM
@ Dylan
That was the most ignorant comment ever written, nice try though.
@ SuperErik
You really need to get laid. You obviously have nothing better to do besides troll Engadget and fight nonstop for Apple. What a fucking loser you are, you really need a positive female influence in your life and I don't mean the blow up doll on the back of your scooter. Of course no woman in her right mind would give you the time of day. Being anonymous has reallly made you feel like you're something, hasn't it?
Click on his name and read his post's, he's an idiot.
SuperSexyErik (^_^) @ Jul 24th 2008 12:38PM
@snowenlow
Awwwww! You poor guy :)
My girlfriend is still laughing at your pathetic atempt :D
I think it is you that needs to get laid brother. Go find a nice hooker if they will have you :)
My fiancé said good luck! And stop living in the past, get an iPhone you poor baby :)
tra la la @ Jul 25th 2008 4:35AM
so...um...is "she" your girlfriend or fiancee? if you can't get it right, then I hope you have a good lawyer. hahahah
Anti-Fanboy @ Jul 27th 2008 3:23PM
If you look at SuperSexyErik (^_^)'s profile, and then his myspace, you will notice that he is 16 years old. Quite young to be engaged. I would imagine it is difficult to juggle wedding plans and your intermediate algebra course. Best of luck to you Erik (^_^).
tra la la @ Jul 27th 2008 8:45PM
eh... not worth my time. and who said he's in such an advanced class as algebra? he *does* us an iPhone, btw. hahahah (sarcasm alert on the "advanced class" part)
SuperSexyErik (^_^) @ Jul 27th 2008 9:14PM
I'm 18 in 2 weeks :)
I change it age a year younger on myspace cuz when you turn 18 you have to enter codes for everybody.
Who said anything about getting married? Engagement is a commitment I made to my gf.
But algebra was my favorite math class, thanks for the laugh ;)
Sean M. @ Jul 23rd 2008 4:47PM
so the 700wx lives on? and what of the 800w...not a palm os, but maybe that's their replacement? meh.
TheGasMan @ Jul 23rd 2008 5:45PM
"the only in Verizon's lineup with strong ties to Palm's old-school industrial design"
Forgetting the 700wx that's still for sale, are we? Or are you only referring to Palm OS devices that still have the old school look? But if that's the case... Isn't the 755p/680 the only Palm OS phone in *anyone's* lineup that still looks old school?
aquacow @ Jul 23rd 2008 6:18PM
FYI - the 755p has been on VZW's closeout device list for at least 2 weeks now. The current going price is $99.99 post $50 mail-in-rebate
Christian Walters @ Jul 23rd 2008 8:32PM
Another nail in Palm's coffin!
TheGasMan @ Jul 23rd 2008 10:30PM
It's outdated and being overtaken by the newer and better Centro which has had record sales... and this is a nail in Palm's coffin? Hmm...
SuperSexyErik (^_^) @ Jul 23rd 2008 11:59PM
who is this "gasman" ?
doesnt he know that these products are years outdated?? ;)
PeterB @ Jul 23rd 2008 9:05PM
This phone was DOA from launch. The Centro isn't selling well at all either, and for good reason, the PalmOS has been dead since 2002, time to pull the plug and send the corpse to the crematorium
Dylan @ Jul 23rd 2008 9:59PM
Agreed, palm was "the shit" in the 90's before RIM made a go of it, the bar was raised and that was it. Palm can come up with as many designs and OS's as they want but for the business user, the BB is king and it will be for awhile.
TheGasMan @ Jul 23rd 2008 10:29PM
The Centro isn't selling well? I'll have some of whatever you're smoking. You must not read Engadget much.
PeterB @ Jul 25th 2008 12:48AM
What I am smoking is 12 years in the cell phone business. The only reason it sells because its a $99 smartphone, but compare sales to the Blackberry Curve and prepare to be startled.
The awful 700 series Treos (both OSes) killed about 75% of what used to be a rabidly loyal fanbase, the failure of delivering an update to the Palm version for well over a year, and not fixing a damn thing, killed another 20%. Guess where they ended up? It wasn't over at the WinMo camp either.
TheGasMan @ Jul 25th 2008 11:32AM
"The Centro isn't selling well at all"
and then
"The only reason it sells because its a $99 smartphone"
You've been twelve years in the cell phone business, but you still choose to lie? What for?
You could have not told us that and then we would have been able to assume you were just ignorant. But now we know that you're just lying because you're biased against Palm.
icarus @ Jul 25th 2008 11:38PM
i work in a small verizon kiosk and we sell 6-10 Centros a week, our bigger stores sell alot more...Centro is selling just fine
kookoobirdz @ Jul 24th 2008 10:44AM
What if we didn't have consumer product blog post comments in which to express our seething contempt and misanthropy? We'd be all plugged up. Whew!
V-Dawg @ Jul 24th 2008 1:50PM
"Can't we all just get along?" For the children?
David D @ Jul 24th 2008 5:53PM
I really am not a big fan of the touch keyboards, but the iPhone is alright. DON'T ACCUSE ME OF BEING A FANBOY! I just prefer it over the current competition. However, I will ALWAYS prefer a physical keypad. I would take a Bold over an iPhone any day.
David D @ Jul 24th 2008 5:53PM
Oh yeah, NOBODY CARES!!! (about this phone!!!)
sit2k @ Sep 3rd 2008 10:19AM
how are keyboards outdated when the new diamonds are coming out with keyboards and w/out keyboards?
oh i get it, iphone 1st gen came out without a sd slot and you guys stated sd slot is outdated too? or was apple just too stupid to include the sd slot?
it's really funny how they apply fanboys think their phone is so sweet and todays mobil platform.
1. todays mobil platform is NOT the os that runs the iphone, it's called windows mobil. how can you tell? well lets see..
a. apple with all their commercials for the iphone are looking to possibly sell 10 million in a year.
b. ms does not have commercials on tv and doesnt spend 10% of apple's advertising amounts and sold a "disappointing" (as per ms) 18 million winm o licenses.
c. apple is still using old technology with the buttons on the screen shortcuts (please refer to 90's when palm launched their devices)
d. you can configure iphone to your liking as you can with winmo.
e. i believe it was apple that begged ms for AS technology so they can sync with exchange.
the list is amazingly long as to what winmo can do compared to iphone. iphone is eyecandy for limited thinkers while winmo is open to do what you like with it.
you iphone fanboys better hope ms does not come out with their own phones... just ask sony and they will tell you their horror stories

oh wait! they added that this year right? didn't everyone else have these technologies before the iphone. you know, the internet, touchscreen, email and so forth?
they added gps too.. wow, they just keep copying the winmo phone left and right.
I also love how they touted the visual email as if they invented it when they were actually stealing technology from others and got sued!
