Sprint's Centro gently nudged with "software tune up"
Does that tired old Centro feel like it could use a little freshening-up? 'Course it does, and Palm's Johnny-on-the-spot with a hot new firmware build fresh out of the oven -- if you're on Sprint, that is. The new update is ten bullet points strong on Palm's support site, with updates and fixes ranging from better Bluetooth support to support for My Location in Google Maps (that's sure to be a crowd pleaser right there). Head on over to Palm to pick up the goods, but beware, they say you ought to "allow an hour" for the process to complete.[Via The Official Palm Blog]

Just updated the centro and installed the mylocation maps its not very accurate but it sure is better than typing your location. You can download my location google maps for your att or vzw centro at Palm's website or google website.

Not too happy about it erasing all my data. I backed it up, but I had to turn on a windows computer, download Palm Desktop, hotsync (which took too long), and then run the update.
I haven't been able to run Palm Desktop on my Mac since the 10.5.4 update, which saddens me.

You can use NVBackup to save data to your expansion card, and then restore it after the update. No need to hotsync.

I sync at least 1x a week or so. sometimes a little longer, usually if I remember adding a contact or something. I keep most of my really important stuff (documents/pics) on my flash card anyhow.
Everything seems fine. Haven't tried the bluetooth improvements yet. Anyone find out if stereo bluetooth is natively supported now? That would be nice.
MyLocation was 1 street to the west of my actual location. Definitely good enough for getting directions when you don't specifically know the address of your current location + zip code... like when you're out of town just trying to find a freaking Subway. Could have used this 2 days ago when I was in KC.
Google, find me a sandwich.

does anybody know the pricing on the moto v950 when released?

The update has rendered the IM app useless on my phone. Whenever I attempt to login to either AIM, MSN, or YIM, I get: [Error 974] Account Id and Msisdn is null.
Anyone have any ideas? I'll be stopping by a Sprint store sometime this week to try and rectify the issue, just curious to see if anyone else has had the same problem.
Andre @ Jul 28th 2008 1:32PM
Have you tried deleting the IM app and downloading it from the store again? the IM app had been pretty much wonky up until the update; refreshing it from a new store "purchase" should work. the purchased app should price at $0.00 so don't worry 'bout getting charged.
i usually redownload a copy of the mobile IM app and the sprint mobile mail app after a few months of heavy use. just my 2cents.

@ Andre: Thanks for the suggestion! In my desperation, I downloaded and reinstalled the IM app and it works again.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!

I tried downloading and running the file. The only thing I get is a window that opens in Notepad with the name of Index.hta. I spoke to 3 people at Palm (not could understand English and I couldn't understand them) who apparently read from a book because I got the same answers on all three calls. When they couldn't resolve it, mysteriously the line became disconnected. Anyone else have the same problem?????
