Samsung's i900 Omnia launching next week in Italy
If you've had your eye on Samsung's forthcoming Omnia, you've known good and well it was coming to Europe sometime this month. Thankfully, Sammy has removed the mystery by announcing that Italy will get first dibs when it launches in said country on July 22nd. We aren't told who will be second, third or last, but most major European locales should have it before September dawns. Obviously, prices will vary depending on operator and contract terms, but the 8GB edition (along with an Xbox 360 Arcade, as part of some random promotion) will reportedly be €499 ($789) without subsidy. Glean from that what you will.

When the time is right, I'd really like to see a full-blown comparison between the Omnia and the SE Xperia.
*HINT, HINT*

The specs are similar I guess. But looking at Samsung not-so-impressive track record in usability I have my money on Sony.

Hopefully the rumors are true about AT&T getting this. It'll be a very nice alternative to the iPhone. If only they can keep the price competitive.

Random promotion? I don't think so. Obviously Microsoft is willing to promote every Windows Mobile phone that may be capable of competing against the iPhone (also popular in Italy and sold in the same shop).
Regardless I'll try to get the Samsung instead of the iPhone, just for the 5mp camera.

I need an in-depth comparison between the iPhone & Omnia.
I would really appreciate a "iPhone vs. Omnia vs. Nokia Tube vs. Nuvi Phone vs. Blackberry Thunder" full blown comparison complete with full feature vs. feature comparison and unbiased opinions on the rankings of each phone in every category.
I expect this on my desk by close of business monday so get busy Engadget

Sorry but I am using a PPC 6700 that i have been using since 2005 and it is crap. It locks up all the time, a minimum of 3 times a day. Maybe that is WinMo problem but on top of that the navigation joystick and keyboard don't work. I have to use the stylus and keyboard to do everything and i don't blame this on WinMo i blame it on shoddy mechanical/moving parts and i don't want to repeat the same mistake with my next purchase.
I would understand if this happened to one phone but I have used Sprint's insurance to replace this phone 6 times before i gave up and just accepted that i was going to use a stylus for EVERYTHING
Notice all of the phones i named have 3.5"ish screens for surfing and video and a small amount of breakable buttons

It's hard to compare the Omnia with the Iphone because of the completely different operating systems. Though I would venture to say, as I've just started playing with the Omnia this past week, that the UI on the Iphone is much better integrated than on the Omnia (though perhaps somewhat less stable with the newly release 2.0 offering). Thumbing through the interface is quite difficult as the scrollbars are quite tiny for for even average-sized fingers, requiring the use of a stylus from time-to-time. The Omnia, on the other hand, has much better hardware all-round. My main complaints would be the lack of built-in stylus (requires lanyard) and no dedicated 3.5mm audio jack). Have a look at some reviews of the Omnia
