AT&T-branded Samsung Omnia in the works?
LG and Samsung just love throwing down the touchscreen gauntlet on American carriers lately -- one only need look at the Dare, Instinct, Vu, Voyager, and Glyde to figure that much out. Thing is, none of those devices really fall into the smartphone bucket, much less the coveted "superphone" one. That might just be where the recently-announced Samsung Omnia comes into play, though, which is now rumored to be destined for AT&T with a gaggle of features in tow: Windows Mobile 6.1, 5 megapixel camera, HSDPA, at least 8GB of internal storage, and support for AT&T Mobile TV. If it turns out to be true, that's got to steam LG, who's presently sitting atop the AT&T Mobile TV food chain with the Vu -- but hey, if that means they're going to set to work with another range-topper above this one, we're all for it.

This obviously has GPS, where I didnt think the Vu did.. at least I didnt se it in the spec sheet. I am not so concerned with the resolution of the camera, but more with the collective features. I want everything :)

AT&T has a bad habit of allowing hope to be built through rumors only to have nothing pan out in the end. I'll believe this one when there's actually a Samsung Omnia sitting in an AT&T store.

I've been looking at the Samsung Omnia for about 2 months and was able to confirm with an AT&T rep at last week that they were in fact getting this phone. It will be released in September, only because the iPhone is dropping in 2 weeks. It will come in two flavors: 8gb and 16gb. It has GPS, 5mp camera, Samsung's TouchWiz interface. Retail, it's about $800 but with a 2 year contract, it'd be around $500-$600 but the person I spoke said it may be even less because Americans are not used to paying so much for a phone. I hope this helps anyone interested in this phone.

David don't freak out, you are not replying to yourself. I am another David.
It's been rumored that the US/at&t version would be stripped of WiFi, GPS and 3G.

Did your contact comment on this? I hope it's just an ugly rumor.

I'm going to buy this bitch the very first second I see an unlocked version on ebay. This is at the top of my Most Wanted list. Right above the HTC Dream.
Meccalangelo @ Jul 1st 2008 12:14PM
Online retailers will be selling this unlocked when its available on July 7th.

Can you validate these claims good sir?
So that I can decide wheter or not I want to pay my rent on time this month. Because there is no way that I'm not purchasing this device with in 3 days of being released.
What are you sources? Are you teasing me?

Yawn.
Still holding my breath for the Sony X1
Frankie @ Jul 1st 2008 3:57PM
Besides Screen resolution, the Sony can not even begin to compare to this device, from hardware, to specs, to OS (extended OS for that matter) there's no comparison. The Sony has not been released yet and it's already outdated (though I am jealous of the screeen res)

Celluloco.com (Based in Miami) is the only one I trust therefore the only one I would recommend. Just do a search for "i900"
plh2034 @ Jul 1st 2008 6:06PM
You trust them?
You see the price they are charging for the 8GB iPhone 3G? Thats not profit that is rape. I could never "trust" a company that would charge over 4 times the price for something they did not create.
Meccalangelo @ Jul 2nd 2008 4:31AM
You seem to misunderstand what a trusted site is. I for one would rather pay 600 bucks for a peanut and have it delivered the same day than to pay 40 bucks for a new car and not receive it at all. Regardless of price, they are always good on everything I ever purchased from them and by all means you have a choice...you dont like em you dont use em, the link wasnt meant for you anyway. Next time mind your own biz.
Frankie @ Jul 1st 2008 4:55PM
OMG you're sir are heaven sent. not only have I been waiting years for a device with these specs, but I live no more than 20 minutes away from Miami. That's so awesome.
rHine @ Jul 2nd 2008 11:11PM
It is not even 4 times more it is practically 10 times more than the original price of the iphone 3g. I would never pay that much money to a company that did not create the product. How would I be certain what happened to the item before it got into my hands for a sum that could essentially buy me 10 iphones. scary thought....
vic @ Jul 7th 2008 7:42PM
dont know what rep you spoke to david i work for att and im pretty up to date on what may come out what mite come out but only because what i read on sites like these we do not have access to what phones we are getting and what we are not so what ever that att rep told you probly bull i work for this company and i dont even trust it to get a phone like that they put all there focus on the iphones which are decent phones only because of the internet browser 2 megapixel cam come on no mms its bullshit the 199 price is good but anyway remember the sony k850i the 5 megapixel cam phone didnt happen neither will this phone no with all the specs that it comes with anyway if im wrong great i would love this phone i jus wish this company would focus on more than that dumbass iphone so many phones out there that are 10 times better

Full stops are actually very useful and often necessary
