Sprint's HTC Touch (Vogue) gets Windows Mobile 6.1 update
Hey, Vogue users -- jealous of your Mogul toting friends, are you? Put all that angst aside, as an official Sprint firmware update has just been loosed that adds Windows Mobile 6.1 among other things. Not much else to say beyond that, and besides, shouldn't you have that download started already?

Update: Whoa there, just a word of warning -- Sprint has reached out to us to let us know that this is actually not an official update, and it "does not support unauthorized or beta software updates for its devices." xda-developers often does good work, but just be careful with this one and make sure you understand that Sprint won't be bailing you out if you get yourself up a creek with this one!

Give me a Touch Pro or Diamond Sprint. At least it has Windows Mobile now.
Rogue_Genius @ Jun 26th 2008 11:20AM
Are you saying "at least the TOUCH has windows mobile now" ? If you are, you are quite late.
The Touch came from the FACTORY with WinMo6. This post is just notice that ver. 6.1 (you know, an upgrade/patch/fix to 6.0) is out and ready for pickup.

No you haven't, don't be a fool. This update is faster, more stable, etc.
STNC @ Jun 26th 2008 12:28PM
updating now!

My first comment didn't go through for some reason... But why would I need to go to a non-Sprint site to get the updates if this is the official ROM?
pauze @ Jun 26th 2008 2:33PM
because its an early leak of the official rom. (and i don't know why sprint is still holding it back.)
i have it running on my touch. try it out, it's great. and the installation was a breeze.

anyone having problems with this file/version? (i dont mean 6.1 as a whole just THIS particular .exe download)
AnonCoward @ Jun 27th 2008 3:01PM
In what way is this official. Its from Xda-dev. Not Sprint not HTC. Try calling it unofficial. Bit more accurate.
Peter F @ Jun 27th 2008 3:27PM
Labeled as official, Maybe leaked.

Just installed it. Long pause at 10% so don't get discouraged. Took about 15 to 20 minutes rather than 10 minutes like the installer says. I wasn't able to make calls or connect to the net. Fifteen minutes later I synced it to my macbook and it worked. Not sure if it was the time I waited or the sync.

6.1 FTW!
Runs great!
Added opera 8.56 (free for 30 days) and it really sings!

Everything works great with this, but I do have one complaint...Has anyone tried to use the phone while roaming after the upgrade. For some strange reason, my phone switches to the network that I am roaming on, but none of the data features work. Also, when I tried to check my voicemail (I am a sprint customer) I get a verizon error message. Again this all happens while roaming. Anyone experiencing the same problems or found a fix for this.

Al-tel just released their firmware update for their version of the touch. It's likely that this unofficial update was more-or-less based on that version, which would explain a lot, as Al-tel has reportedly been purchased by Verizon.
Rknight @ Jul 3rd 2008 8:38PM
DO NOT download this if you live in an area that your phone roams. All connections with sprint do not work. ie: as a sprint customer if you try to dial out while roaming a typical message is "welcome to verizon...Our service does not recognize your phone." I live in the DC metro area & ride the subway to work everyday...In a region where sprint has a huge headquarters...Verizon owns the subway system....As of two days ago when I performed this upgrade, my phone is useless on the subway system. I wish I would have waited for the official release. Sprint can not help me, and I can not downgrade. The only option I have is to wait for sprint to officially release the 6.1 update.

All you have to do is go to your local service center. Tell them that you don't know what is wrong with your phone and that you would like to have it swapped out. If they don't do it, then brick the phone first and then they will. They will wipe it tho so back it up before you go.

I ran the "unofficial" update on my Sprint HTC Touch. It works awesome with my phone except for one thing. In the phone book menu on the right side where you can select the letter you want to go to, it goes away all the time and I get the scroll bar instead of the letters and the only way to get it back is to soft reset the device. That is getting annoying since I use that feature everyday. But I least I have Built in GPS Now.

Great fucking job, HTC. I attempted installing the update, first it put my device into 3-color-mode, and now it's telling me the update is not compatible with my Sprint HTC Touch, and now my device is stuck in 3-color-mode. Can someone please tell me how to get my device back to normal?
Blake @ Aug 31st 2008 5:06PM

Francois @ Sep 4th 2008 11:55PM
