Verizon's Samsung U430 excites our inner milquetoast
There's nothing quite like leaked information on a phone expected to be given away for free on contract to get the blood pumping, is there? It turns out that the freshly FCC-approved SCH-u430 from Samsung will end up replacing the lowly u410, offering the same VGA camera and 160 x 128 primary display as its predecessor but enjoying a restyled shell that should at least get an occasional glance from passers-by in the Verizon store. Or maybe not -- there always seem to be at least a few models available for free after rebates and whatnot, and we're struggling to see what would attract anyone to this particular model. Brand loyalty or that trick analog clock display, perhaps? No word on official pricing (geez, it better be free) or an availability date yet.

Joke all you want, but this is the bread and butter of the cell phone industry. This is a phone for people who don't read engadget, or go to howard forums. If the fixed the near impossible to hear ringer from the u410, it will sell by the truckloads.

the above poster is right, these may be the thinsg most of us who read this care about the LEAST, but these low end devices are what makes carriers tons of money. every carrier has these devices, I am always suprised when you gusy post the verizon ones and not the alltel/sprint/att models. were is the post about the awesome ax300 for alltell? were is the post about the M300 from sprint? wich is basically a cllone of this device.
were is the post about A437 from ATT??
oh, they are not here....because nobody gives a crap abotu them either, but for some reason we get the verizon models, and as usual we get chris bagging on verizon with his witless and wet humor that provides us with little to no info.

So.... what are you suggesting here? Do you want us to:
A) Tirelessly wax poetic about every low-end phone that hits the
market?
B) Use posts like this to talk about how wonderfully serviceable
these devices are and congratulate Verizon on bagging a surefire
moneymaker?
C) Continue to cherry-pick the occasional low end device (regardless
of carrier) to keep enthusiasts abreast of the whole market,
particularly when the information is leaked?

I choose C

I think VZWguy would choose C, but he would prefer more of the "regardless of carrier" part instead of just focusing on VZW entry levels.

alltell is dead...verizon is bidding on them now...their customer service is the worst if you want to hold on for 1/2 hour to 1 hour and their cell service is the worst....
