Coolpad showcases dual-band, dual-SIM handset at CommunicAsia
Dual-band? Check. Dual-SIM? Check. One phone? Triple check. Believe it or not, Coolpad has reportedly crafted a phone that's multifaceted like no other -- one that not only includes room for a pair of SIM cards, but includes GSM and CDMA radios. Furthermore, the unit can purportedly switch between GSM and CDMA accounts on a whim, making you wonder why on Earth this didn't arrive before you plunked down for a second handset. The mobile is supposedly going for anywhere between $100 to $1,000 (depending on model and "who you know on the inside"), but you'll have to trek to Indonesia, China or Africa in order to acquire one.

Ahhhh ... I think you mean dual-mode. Dual-band only idicates that the phone works on more than one frequency (850MHz/1900MHz for instance), but not more than one mode (technology). That said, almost every phone available today is at least a dual-band handset. In fact, only the cheapos are only dual-band, us geeks prefer quad-band.

You know what I want in a dual-SIM phone?
0) ability to use both SIMs at the same time, sending (perhaps) voice and txt to one SIM, and data to the other SIM
1) qwerty keypad or bluetooth HID
2) Symbian S60 or some linux flavor (Android? Maemo?)
3) 3G for AT&T _and_ T-Mobile (and maybe Oz and Euro/Asia)
4) microSDHC
5) Bluetooth DUN or Wifi based tethering
6) Bluetooth HID and BIP for remote control of the device
7) CDMA is highly optional, but if it has CDMA, it should have EVDO rev A too.

I for one just want to see a CDMA sim card ...

They're called R-UIM cards. They're not used here in the states, but they are used overseas for CDMA.

Why the hell they don't use those cards in the states beats me! It would make switching between Sprint and Verizon a lot easier for those wishing to move: http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-a-ruim-card.htm

Well, we have a lot of those in Indonesia. It called 2-On phones, you can chose from GSM-GSM on, CDMA-CDMA on, or GSM-CDMA on. Like its name, both of the SIM / RUIM card(s) are active (on). Although there're so many Indonesian self labeled brands, it actually manufactured by a company in China. That's why some of these 2-On phones look very similar. The prices are also considerably cheap, at least on the range of mid-to-low end of brands like Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung or LG.

Actually, Samsung and LG make 2-On phones in China. So did Motorola (only one).
