Verizon's
G'zOne devices from Casio seems to attract a small but fiercely loyal following, mainly on account of their everything-proof shells (let's be honest, we don't think it's the VGA camera that's been drawing 'em in). Rugged and PTT go hand-in-hand -- just ask Nextel -- so it's great news that the next G'zOne will be
supporting Verizon's new EV-DO Rev. A-based push-to-talk infrastructure out of the box. We've managed to score a couple pieces of miscellany pertaining to the so-called
Boulder, most importantly a diagram pointing out some of the phone's distinctive features. Just how distinctive are we talking about here? Well, if you look for another phone in Verizon's lineup with a screw-lock battery cover and charging contacts outside of the G'zOne series, we guarantee you're not going to find one. One difference between the Boulder and its Casio brethren, though, is that we're told this one looks "significantly slimmer." Another shot shows the back of the real, actual phone; no renders this time, we promise -- check it out after the break.

G'zOne's don't have VGA cameras. The first two models had 2MP in fact.

Not true.

You are both wrong and right.
The G'zOne had a 2.0MP camera. That was the first model, which was gigantic. The Type S was smaller and apparently downgraded the camera to a VGA camera. So the first model had a 2.0 MP camera, the 2nd model did not.
However Chris, you are wrong on one other thing. Verizon does have one other phone with external battery charging contacts. The Coupe, which is targetted to senior citizens uses an external charging stand to make it easier to charge. However it is not waterproof, nor does it have the screw locked battery like the G'zOne.

So is the phone secretly giving the release date as June 25 (Wed) 2008???
or is it just coincidence? I sure hope so....

I'm actually a little sad that this phone doesn't have a GSM sibling - I would definitely scoop one of these up as a secondary phone for when I'm in the outdoors (or heck, even at home sometimes - I'm clumsy).
I have a sport model from Nokia that is rubberized, has an LED flashlight and a bunch of cool outdoorsy add-ons...and it's been a great phone but I would like to replace it!

So could anyone give an educated guess as to when this will come out? Next week? Next quarter?

I can't believe that they don't aggressively market this to moms. My toddlers trashed two phones before I found the S model and now I am (not-so-patiently) waiting for the new version. It should be marketed as "toddler proof"....... maybe next month??

I can't believe they don't aggressivly market this to moms. My toddlers trashed two inferior phones before I found the S version. Then, I lost it over the weekend. I will wait rather than replace with another trash phone. They ought to doll these babies up and call them toddler-proof! August is the month I hear.....
