Is AT&T prepping the Samsung i788 as the BlackJack 3?

Throw this one in your "hopes and dreams" stack friends, but the web's buzzing with rumors of the Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional-powered Samsung i788 as AT&T's BlackJack 3. This new and freshly rumored device apparently will pack the 3G frequencies that the Samsung i780 doesn't have, stylus, optical touchpad, WiFi, HSDPA, GPS, and almost certainly be devoid of any type of forward-facing camera. Of course, all this is guesswork, and features could disappear -- bye bye, WiFi, GPS? -- or be added if and when it comes to market. Here's to more of the same, AT&T!

They will definitely keep GPS, the BJ II has it and most of their new PDA phones do, too.
They MIGHT remove WiFi, but this is a WM6 PRO device, which usually retain their wifi.

Nooooooooooooooo!!!! Please don't do this, the Blackjack is a WM6 Standard phone and the i788 runs WM6.1 "Professional" which will make it a passable PDA but a terrible telephone.
I can't stand the touchscreen WM devices. WM6.1 Standard is really nice with lots of good UI enhancements that are sadly absent in WM6.1 Pro.
Until WM7 I'm steering clear of anything running Windows with a touchscreen.

OH GOD PLEASE DON'T UPGRADE THE PHONE

Keep the WiFi and GPS and I'm sold. As much as I want to replace my BJ with the iPhone 3G this phone looks great.

Jeezus... I hope you're wrong, engadget... I just got my BJ2 3 months ago! Now I might need to shell out the non-contract price!!! I HATE YOU AT&T!!!
Thanks for making me want something new. Again.

They better make it 2.6in as I feel the current screen could be a little larger.

Ugly, damnit Samsung...i hate the keyboard too
I am very interested in the optical touchpad, i hope it works awesome. It will definitely have GPS as thats the AT&T trend of late.

Do not want...has a stylus which requires you to use both of your hands.
slamEVIL @ Jun 19th 2008 11:17PM
just because it has a stylus doesn't mean you need two hands. i NEVER use two hands with my tilt.
Shadow @ Jun 19th 2008 5:16PM
Blackjack's aren't bad phones, hopefully this phone can continue the good name
slamEVIL @ Jun 19th 2008 11:15PM
the bjii is going for $99 right now, so i bet this is coming to at&t soon. i doubt they will call it the bjiii though. this phone is really not that similar to the other two.
michael @ Jul 5th 2008 4:36PM
Talk about FUGLY.
Btw, the i907 is the supposed AT&T omnia, not the BJ3.
