HTC Touch Diamond surfaces at CompUSA
Oh, snap. Just the other day we were bemoaning the fact that the Touch Diamond sent to us courtesy of HTC lacked both HSDPA 850 / 1900 and GSM 850, but according to the product page at CompUSA, the version it's selling has all of those. Yep, a purported quad-band Touch Diamond is seemingly in stock right now for Americans willing to part with $779.99, but remember, all those bills nets you a 2.8-inch VGA display, HSDPA 7.2, Windows Mobile 6.1 and oodles of sexy. Go on, help HTC get one closer to two million this year.
[Thanks, Tom]
Update: Hey look, UKers can get in too. Just £463.99 including VAT. Thanks Leigh!
Update 2: For shame! HTC just pinged us and said this thing is the same as every other Touch Diamond, meaning that North American 3G is not supported.

Is it possible that CompUSA made a boo-boo, and posted specs based on the Diamond's tricksey network-selection options that show all four bands (even though only three of them actually work)?
Hmmmm.... hopefully somebody who picks one up at the big box store can post a comment so we all know (I live in Thailand, where the initial 3G rollout is 900 MHz, so either way, I'll be set!)

this is a huge mistake, first they dont have any. None of the employees have a clue. HTC didnt sell them to them. Brightpoint didnt sell them to them. Did HK? I will be if these are really 850 ( i doubt it) they will not have a US warranty or support.

Well, that explains a fair bit: Telstra will be offering the Touch Diamond on the 850MHz Next G network soonish. Looks like HTC is copying Nokia in pursuing a bi-regional specification strategy: one type for Eurasia and another for the New World.

I'm also very suspicious of this. Why CompUSA of all stores? A company that went out of business last year, and was bought out by Tiger Direct... certainly doesn't seem like the type of place that would get the first shipment of Quad-band Diamonds, especially since such things are seemingly a myth anyways.

I'm confused. Will this work on the U.S. T-mobile 3G network? If so, maybe I'll get this instead of the Xperia1

I don't know - given its potentially abysmal battery life, useless band support, and typical winmo foibles, this phone has all the appeal of a supermodel with no genitalia.
Might work for some, but I'll pass... :)

I don't get it, why is engadget so against HTC? this phone is great! Personally, am waiting for a windows mobile 7 HTC Touch Pro (if that ever happens). But seriously, why is Engadget sending all those negative comments and posts about it!
The iPhone SUCKS! Yet look how loving you are for it! :S
