Unsubsidized iPhone 3G priced at €499/€569 in Europe
This morning we're getting a first look at unsubsidized prices for the iPhone 3G in Europe. Vodafone Italy have set an out-of-contract price for the iPhone 3G at 499/€569 ($773/$881) for the 8GB/16GB models, respectively. Subscription rates have not yet been announced. While steep, those prices are actually smartphone-reasonable in Italy (and around Europe) where an HTC Touch Cruise with its WiFi, tri-band HSDPA data, GPS, and touchscreen sells for €549. Capisce?[Thanks, Andrea]

Not quite a $199, huh?

Did people really expect it to be the same price without a contract,
as it is with one? What planet are some of you people living on?
Since when were sim free phones the same price as they are on a
contract, erm..... never.

Come on... I'm just kidding.
Anyway, maybe there'll be someone who turn one from 'with a contract' to 'without''... just maybe.

Sure but take off the $200/$300 subsidy and you get at most $599 which is €400 not €569.

Umm... I think $599 is good enough for me.
Or maybe I should keep using my iPod Touch. At least it helps me posting this:-)

And we europeans as always are paying for the rest of the world... damn it!! I'm sick of this...
It's on IT, gas price, etc etc etc...

bit steep considering an iPod Touch 16G is about €135 .. the price of novelty and fashion and dare we say it "freedom" ?

Hello, I'm an Italian guy and I often visit this website!
As u said, the Vodafone Italy price seems "smartphone-reasonable", but it looks quite high if u think that the ordinary data-transfert rates are very "salty" (i don't know if u use this word in english)! Anyway.. this new iPhone 3G doesn't convince me at all but the Samsung i900 does it very well.
Sorry for my english and.. the last sentence should be: "CAPITO?"
Bye bye :D

Yes, it is the same price as the comparables, but they are not selling it unlocked, and there is not a factory authorized unlocking solution (i.e. unlocking may brick it)
Very important for Europe, as you still have to worry about roaming charges.
