iPhone SDK contains a 3G iPhone icon?
Take this one with a huge grain of salt, but some enterprising members of the MacRumors forums went poking around the iPhone SDK files and unearthed what might be an icon representation of the 3G iPhone. (We looked ourselves and it's definitely there.) There's only one tiny image (scaled up on the left), but it's clearly different from the other iPhone icons in the bundle, and it matches up nicely with some of the other leaked images we've been seeing. Of course, this is more likely a bad render or even just temporary art for the SDK, but things certainly seem like they're starting to domino here -- June 9 can't get here fast enough, can it, Steve?

Looks like all they did is accidentally reflected it horizontally...
Tony @ May 28th 2008 6:34PM
yeah, what do you mean? it matches up nicely with THE CURRENT IPHONE too.
Secret Squirrel @ Jun 2nd 2008 9:41AM
Exactly, i don't see how they're different AT ALL!!

i dont get this at all? that picture on the right doesnt look like the 3g icons you see on other fones connected to 3g. and the one on the right is backwards? can someone please clarify?

It's a developer kit icon, not one for the top of your mobile phone's screen that identifies what sort of network connection you have. It would be for those who were creating programs for use with the iPhone to use as icons within their program.
The article is saying that it's been rumored that this icon that was found within the developer kit may be one that represents the new "3g" iPhone.

I'm sorry but I really have to say that this is the first piece of garbage news I have ever read on here and it's just sad... but at least you mentioned the HUGE grain of salt...
Is there any possible way that EngadgetMobile could post little tidbit news about other mobiles too, or is the immediate concern in order to get a free iPhone from apple?
Brian @ May 28th 2008 8:15PM
Is there any possible way you can just expect there to be news about the iPhone on the engadget mobile site? Especially now more than ever, with an update drawing nigh?
carlo2 @ May 28th 2008 8:47PM
@brian: Rumors about an icon on a rumor site whose own posters are skeptical of the original poster 's post are NOT news.
Today is the kick off of the S60 Summit in Barcelona, Spain. Where's that story?
I love EngadgetMobile to death, but this story was so bad in light of other news that I had to express my disdain for it. Engadget even KNEW it was a weak story, hence the "grain of salt" comment.

Eh, yeah, you got me. Sorry, I'm kinda a poor thinker right after classes.

Umm, it looks exactly like the current phone, and the image on the right is flipped for some reason. I am all for iPhone news, seriously, but, this isn't news. Lol, its fine on MacRumors, but I don' think you need to post it Engadget. Anywho, I am not complaining, the more iPhone news the better to me. I guess its just me wishing we had more solid info, oh well, the wait continues.
Brandon @ May 29th 2008 3:17AM
Uh...seriously?
Seriously.
Seth J. @ May 29th 2008 12:29PM
This is seriously not any serious news on iPhone 2. I'm serious. The workers smuggling in the 3G iPhones to Apple stores in fat suits is news. Or is it?
