One of Nokia's upcoming business-class handsets, the svelte
E66 slider, has garnered FCC approval ahead of a launch that we've got to believe is happening in the
very near future now. That's the good news; the bad news is that there's zero North American 3G involved from what we can see in the test reports. That would make this one a tough sell for existing
E65 customers in the States, we think, especially considering that prerelease units haven't been seen sporting
Feature Pack 2. Ah well -- the E67, perhaps, Nokia?
Update: Disaster averted! Turns out there's another E66
lurking in the FCC's midst that trades HSDPA 2100 for 850 / 1900. Thanks, Jim!

Remove 3G from the E66, and you have nothing.
I love my E65, without 3, I wouldn't have even considered it. What are they thinking?

I beg to differ. There are two versions on the FCC website one with WCDMA band VIII and other one with the US 3G bands.

Thank you! I was already getting quite pissed. Not because the E66 doesn't have US 3G, but because the E66 not having it would most likely mean the E71 wouldn't have it either. That would be the worst news from Nokia as far as I'm concerned. So thank you for that quick find.

Considering that the E65 doesn't have US 3G capability, doesn't seem like it'd necessarily be that big of deal to switch to the E66 -- if you can live without it now, it's not the end of the world if the E66 doesn't have it.

I wish I knew what those numbers really mean, but could you compare the E66 with other US 3G phones and give your opinion? Say BlackJack II, Treo 750...

look at the conducted TX EIRP on FCC documentation (higher is better), this is important to indicate the ability to link back to node under bad reception
it's supposed to be 23-25dBm in 1900, 23-24dBm in 1700/DCS
