iPhone / BlackBerry Bold get close on video, are clearly uncomfortable together
It was simply inevitable: someone was going to lay the iPhone and BlackBerry Bold down beside one another, and if John Mayer won't stop sending himself emails long enough to do it, CrackBerry's sister site will. There's really nothing here that you couldn't put together yourself from checking out galleries and videos of each device separately, but feel free to humor your sick mind by glancing over the comparative images in the read link below or examining the vid waiting after the jump.

now if only they could use nuclear power and the skills of marvel comics Forge to fuse these 2 devices together. Or maybe instead of making iphone knockoffs the chinese should make an iclone with a qwerty that adopts the loved, tried and true features from BOTH...

not to be pain in the butt but don't you think the iphone copied the BlackBerry 8800 then? piano black front with metalbezel along the sides?!

It looks to me like the results are somewhat of a tie. If you're a business person who likes to have some media with them, the BlackBerry is still untouchable, however, if you're a media person who likes to do a little business from your phone, the iPhone seems to win.
It'll be nice to see the final BB Bold vs. iPhone 3G

Why is everyone comparing the Bold to the iPhone? Even Fox news was talking about "A new iphone competitor is on its way" .... I thought they were talkin about the Sprint Instinct... but instead they say the BOLD... The Bold is not even near close to the iPhone.. its just another Blackberry.

i think part of the reason is that apple is going after enterprise users with the next big update (push mail, exchange synching, enterprise class wifi and vpn, etc.), so the iphone is going to start getting compared a lot more to blackberrys and especially the bold in that respect.

Say what? The iphone is just an expensive play toy for kids that need something easy to use because they aren't intelligent enough to figure out how the hell to use a windows mobile or blackberry device. The iphone itself maybe smart, but its designed for retards. Whoops, I'm sorry. I guess I should be a little more PC. muahahaha
blackberrys and htc products are mulitfaceted in more ways than the iphone could ever be. i just think if the iphone would incorporate some things that people like/need most (expandable memory, actual qwerty, replaceable battery, better email functionality AND how about not having to jump through hoops to install a program you like onto it)....it would be a decent mobile device.

as a current winmo 6 user, i can honestly say that it sucks ass and i cannot wait to get rid of it. winmo's gui is retarded, it's slow and unreliable (yeah, i dearly love when ie and the mail app just decide to stop working and i have to reboot at least once a day). yeah, things need to not be designed to be easy to use, how else could elitists like you be able to have endless pissing contests to prove how superior you are to "retards". please. i've been working on computers since the late 70s and have heard the same bs for years. god forbid that someone should make something that the average joe off the street can just use without having a hassle.

I've been using WM 5 and 6 for the past couple of years. I have a cheap data plan and the GSM network around my neck of the woods might as well be non existent, so regrettably, the iPhone is not an option. WM sucks big time. Even at 6.1 it's still a total POS in terms of user interface and incredibly flaky. Not long after the last holiday season a consumer publication mentioned that PDA phones were the most returned Xmas gifts as they were judged too complicated to use. Small wonder. Microsoft says you can do a lot more with Windows Mobile. Indeed. A lot more soft resetting, hard resetting, swearing, cursing... Just try to watch Youtube on WM. No I don't think they copied the 8800. They plain old ripped it off. Specially with the big bold RIM insignia on the back of the 8800 to the big bold apple on the back of the iphone.
however, the iphone may have been past those kind of production designs once the 8800 was released, which was like the end of 06/early 07?

I like how he gets real quiet when the iPhone isn't superior.
Also for you thinking the Bold is a copy cat of the iPhone, look at the Prada. It came out before the iPhone and it looks just like it.

Whoah there! We're missing a few key can and can'ts. Granted, I'm a BB fan, but I'm a little surprised that we didn't get a chance to see Kevin or another from Crackberry.com square off with this fellow. Most notable is that he fails to use a Blackberry in its proper format, i.e. with a thumb. Dexterity is greatly enhanced by doing so, and brings us to the first in a list of several key points:
*BBs can be fully operated with one hand. The iPhone is very limited in this regard, particularly when typing.
*Current BBs with card slots can (or will in 88xx series with 4.5 OS) support stereo bluetooth. This (to me) is more important than viewing cover art on a small screen for portable music.
*The BB has a convenient Mass Storage mode when hooked up via the standard mini USB cable.
*The iPhone is still not MMS capable, and will not support video. All BBs OS 4.3 and up support video, again still not supported by iPhone.
*The iPhone has no flash or zoom while shooting option, the BB does.
*The Bold will support native, in browser, video. The iPhone only has the iPhone app as a separate solution.
*As of this time, there are lots of apps available to soup up a BB. If we spent $200 more than the (speculated) $300 price of the bold to add Flipside to incorporate coverflow ($30), Garmin GPS lifetime (of device) license ($100), as well as a BB RIM stereo Bluetooth gateway ($50 at the right online store), and $20 of your choice of Theme garnish, we'd have a more fair competition in terms of budget. Free apps available for world clock, RSS feed readers, GPS tracking, etc are icing on the cake that you can eat with push email from up to 10 accounts.
*BBs are available for purchase without contract legally.

Let's see a $500 to $500 square-off when the new iPhone and official Bold are available, and let's see Kevin from Crackberry get invited!
