Investment firm downgrades Palm stock to "sell," Bono grimaces
We imagine that entertainer-turned-investor Bono has enough cash banked so that Palm could croak tomorrow with little ill effect on his lifestyle, but still, it's gotta sting. UBS has now slapped Palm stock with a rather yucky "sell" rating, acknowledging that new products are on track for August and November but citing concerns over an "increasingly competitive landscape" from the likes of Apple with the 3G iPhone and RIM with the BlackBerry Bold, all combined with the knowledge that its Linux-based wares won't be hitting until next year. Could the schedule be tightened up at all if they were to adopt Android, and if so, would it be the right move?[Via Palm Infocenter]

Palm still exists?

I'd love to see them become a PIM&software vendor for all of the various mobile linux platforms (Limo, mobile ubuntu, maemo, android). Maybe also iPhone and WinMo, and make sure the desktop runs on not just Mac and Windows, but also major Linux distros.

slow news day? this "news" is over a week old....

This is Palm they're talking about.
ALL the news is old.

All the news is old, just like the phones and the software. I even bet you the software they release in August will be old. Like circa 2001 old.
Unless they get their head out of their ass and real soon and fire all their product designers - they will be bankrupt and dead in the water by April next year.

Obviously that "Open Letter" that Engadget did, didn't do much good. We know they read the letter, but I guess they didn't comprehend or they think that we don't know what we want.
I mean, we are the tech community, we buy the smart phones and the DAPs.

Engadget is either falling for our is guilty of creating the" Palm can do no right" crowd.
The guys are just pissed because Palm wised up and started playing it close to the vest. All media gets pissed when their favorite whipping boy is nowhere to be found. I guess Block and crew figure they'll keep poking until they get a response.

Form factor is everything. If palm comes out with another 240x240 or 320x320 turd, they won't be 'floaters'.
They have to get back to a screen resolution of 480x320 minimum. Is there any irony in the fact that Job's iPhone sports a 480x320 resolution last seen in the Sony Clie pda running Palm OS?
Just why Palm has never taken their large screen pda's and put cell phone radios in, is one of the tipping points toward their imminent demise.
I guess it was more conservative to imitate a Blackberry form factor, rather than blow the status quo out of the water with innovative design (that would back up the mature OS).

My TX sports 320x480.. much forgotten by everybody including Palm. I still love my Clie NX80 to death, although my Kaiser is doing more work these days.
