HTC Touch Diamond unboxed, packaging worthy of the phone

Nothing new to report on the Touch Diamond's tech here, but wow, look how fun the box is! Of course, we know you're all waiting to see what they stuffed in the wedge-shaped package, and the answer is a charger, headset, USB cable, a manual or two, and the software. The charger appears to be a universal job with a swappable plug for travel, and the headset a typical example of an HTC pack-in -- albeit with a dash of fun and angular design. Hit the link for the pics.

Wow. I thought I heard you say Windows Mobile on this... but that's a whole new look to Windows Mobile! Sharp! and the phone has a fantastic design. Loving it! Almost sorry I left Sprint now...
Almost.

Ok The phone is something, but...
65000 colors comon man.
this baby need 16 mil colors like nokia's and iphone.
cant compare this with N95 or N82 or iphone.
i aspected more from HTC.
Achilles @ May 16th 2008 4:02PM
I'm not sure about the Diamonds colors but the iPhones resolution is
320 x 480 (non-VGA) and the Diamond is listed at 640x480 VGA. The screen resolution is better on the Diamond, by the numbers. Maybe the 3G iphone will jump it's former but right now the Diamond has a better resolution. Compare them side by side and it's an easy difference to view.
I'm not hating on the iPhone at all, just pointing out the specs difference listed by HTC and Apple.

Grr...what about the Raphael???
The Diamond is /almost/ a truly great productivity phone, but it's missing a keyboard. :-p
WiiTodd @ May 16th 2008 3:15PM
I agree keyboards are great (not sure if I'd get a phone without one), but this diamond does have it's own improved on screen keyboard... a few different custom choices developed by HTC.

I can't wait to NOT buy this phone... still waiting for the 3G iphone.... NEXT contestant please
Achilles @ May 16th 2008 3:49PM
This phone is looking sweet! I don't care for the iphone comparisons. This phone is headed to SPrint, we don't have the iPhone option. I can't wait for the reviews and official specs for this phone. It's looking really good!

This makes me excited, I will definitely get the Raphael when it comes out (I'm tempted to get this, but I'd die without a physical QWERTY keyboard even if it adds some size/weight to this beautiful device)
One question I had from the pictures though, there's a photo with the back cover off and a little cylindrical thing next to the camera. Is this the speakerphone? I was trying to find out what that is, if it is the speaker phone will there be problems hearing it through the cover?
Kaush @ May 16th 2008 4:38PM
Two questions:
- (rumored) release date + price
- will this have GSM + CDMA, a la the blackberry 8830 that is currently being offered through sprint?
Achilles @ May 16th 2008 5:14PM
I don't think those specs have been released, nor has the date+price.
retro77 @ May 16th 2008 5:41PM

Is there a possibility Verizon will get this gem as well as Sprint? Theyre both CDMA, so I'm anxious to get one
ekimagem @ May 18th 2008 1:43AM
HA! Keep dreamin. Verizon ain gettin it, Sorry. Verizon Constantly gets phones Sprint will never get, regardless if theyre both CDMA. This is Sprints Turn. Verizon Got the Original Touch 6 Months after Sprint. And Thanks to Verizon, Sprint People wont get the Voyager till December.
Soooo....look for this in the Fall too....of 2009
isky @ May 16th 2008 9:51PM
the headset reminds me of the apple bluetooth headset (which would never stay in my ear)

just a quick question that i hope most won't find redundant: if i purchased this phone in europe or asia over the summer is there anyway i could like configure or convert it somehow to my sprint service now or am i just stuck waiting til november?
anthonylitz @ May 21st 2008 11:15AM
Anyone know if these new phones are going to have a IR Port? I need it for real estate. If not I am stuck with getting the Mogul.
