Whoa now, hold up there -- yes, we know HTC's
got some serious equipment in the works for Sprint this year, but we can't put that
Mogul out to pasture just yet. Fortunately, Sprint and HTC both seem relatively committed to keeping the flagship Windows Mobile model up to date, and we now have an official beta firmware floating around that adds Sprint TV and the
real prize, Windows Mobile 6.1. Naturally, due caution must be observed when dealing with prerelease wares, but let's be honest, Mogul owners: every single one of you are going to give this a shot, now aren't you?

Most people who are willing to flash to an unofficial rom will probably try this out and then switch back to their favorite cooked rom or to a new rom based on this release cooked by their favorite chef.
Duscrom @ May 16th 2008 2:39AM
I'm willing to upgrade to the Beta ROM, and not cooked, if for no other reason then it's got an installer. I've hacked iPhones and getting a cooked ROM is beyond my ability.
MasterCKO @ May 15th 2008 6:48PM
well, this is an official beta, right? so I feel like more people would be willing to flash this than the cooked roms, which are very unofficial...
PhilR8 @ May 15th 2008 6:54PM
Wrong. Cooked roms are the result of many, many hours of work by dedicated chefs at ppcgeeks and xda-devs. The roms are constantly upgraded and revised based on the feedback of the community; this process results in the fastest, most stable, and most up-to-date windows mobile roms you will find.
The "official" roms are the crude starting materials: the custom roms are the polished final product. Can't wait to try out a custon rom based on this new update.
Duscrom @ May 16th 2008 2:40AM
I agree. I know I can't do Custom Roms, but this one is simple.
MasterCKO @ May 16th 2008 4:10AM
dude, Phil, no need to pontificate at me. I know what cooked roms are, I know that they are great. I understand the work that goes into them. I love them myself and install them regularly. I'm talking about the view from Joe Average, though. Or Sally Businesswoman.
Almost none of them will install custom roms. In fact, the phrase "custom roms" "cooked" from a "kitchen" by a "chef" is almost certainly going to be gibberish to them. ("What do culinary arts have to do with my phone?") An official flash rom update to the phone, they might possibly install tho. That's all I'm saying.

Hold on i seen on bgr this was an "offical,Close but no cigar "rom & the offical offical roms comes out "june 1" what's the real deal? any clue people

It's nice that this got leaked, but thanks to the chefs at XDA and PPCGeeks I've been running WM6.1 on my Mogul since February. Nonetheless, I eagerly await the official "final" release by HTC because it means a new base for the cooked ROMs :P
0157h7 @ May 15th 2008 9:16PM
Gaines, check your own site man. Internal gps is working already and has been for some time.
scott @ May 15th 2008 9:48PM
I have been using the cooked 6.1 rom for a few months on my mogul and it is much much better than the "official" updates from Sprint. The folk at XDA and PPCGeeks really know what they are doing.
Francisco @ May 16th 2008 7:26AM
I know quite a few people at PPCGeeks have been having problems with this one. If you want a great Mogul ROM, check out the no2chem 5060 kitchen out. It's as close to perfection as you can get. I can't wait for new kitchens to come out based off this setup and radio.
Andrew @ May 16th 2008 10:00AM
Yeah, I've had 6.1 for a long time now on my Mogul. I think I'll give this one a little while to see if they add anything worth using.
Mills @ May 16th 2008 10:21AM
i flashed this last week for the radio version, and then reflashed using a custom cooked rom. the new radio seems to have better support with the gps but has an annoying message when you start up the phone that says "test only - not for sale" or something like that
jethro_static @ May 17th 2008 10:48AM
I think you should all retire your moguls. Ladies and gentlemen. Let me intruduce to you. RAPHAEL!
Pocket DP @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:47PM
it passed june wheres the update ?
aledc78 @ Miami @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:39PM
So... when is this happening?
Leroy Vargas @ Jun 16th 2008 1:47AM
I only want some program to "rip" my Mogul's current ROM into my computer, and another program to modify it (remove OnDemand/GetGood files which I don't use, replace outdated Courier New/Tahoma fonts with those from Vista, replace US wince.nls with Japanese wince.nls, add MS Gothic TTC font from Vista, add IMEJP files, and add registry entries to enable font linking and Japanese IME) so I can later "burn" it into my Mogul with HTC's RUU. I am currently not interested in WM6.1, since I don't know if the WM6 Japanese wince.nls (which I extracted from the emulator image found on Microsoft Download Center) will work with WM6.1 (and Microsoft still hasn't released Japanese WM6.1 image on Download Center, friggin bastards).
