Huawei looking for foreign investment to aid attack on US market
Though it's recently cracked the tough outer shell of the rough-and-tumble US wireless market, Huawei's got a long way to go before it can stand toe-to-toe with the Samsungs and LGs of the world. The economy's seen better days, the market is nearly saturated, and it already seems like there might be a couple players too many for profit, so what's an up-and-coming Chinese firm to do? Invite foreign investment, naturally. Huawei has retained Morgan Stanley to help it line up investors that can bulk it up enough to wage a broadsided offense against the low-end American market, leaving the mid and high-range lineups to the well-established companies that are already making a splash up there. It's pretty rare for a Chinese corporation of Huawei's size and clout to open itself up to cash from outside Chinese borders, so the deal's expected to attract a lot of interest -- theoretically setting the scene for plenty more of its wares on US carriers' shelves. We're all for healthy competition, and if Huawei can shake things up a bit, we're all for it.

Seriously what is it with the anti Chinese sentiment and cold war mentality in all your posts concerning anything Chinese you friggin schmuck(s)?
I mean is it the norm over at engadget for you cocksuckers to attack anything and everything Chinese?
Chinese companies knocking off the iPhone always hear it from you fuckers, but when companies like Nokia and samsung blatantly knock it off, the question becomes "how can you not knock it off when trying to make a touch phone?"
And the UI is not very different in any good way either to differentiate those POS LG and Samsung phones from the Chinese knock offs either, it just seems you guys take it up the ass from everyone but Chinese companies right?

wow. just wow.
i'm not sure where your comment came from, but it certainly wasn't this post. u obviously have something built up inside of u and felt for some reason that chris/em should get the brunt of it. what the hell do u feel was attacked? youre either on the defensive or have zero reading comprehension skills.
let me break it down for u. chris is a real blogger, not an internet celebrity. so to help tell his story, is me, an internet celebrity:
"Though it's recently cracked the tough outer shell of the rough-and-tumble US wireless market, Huawei's got a long way to go before it can stand toe-to-toe with the Samsungs and LGs of the world."
-99 carriers of phones on the list. 99 carriers of phones. theyve taken one down, passed some cell phones around. still 98 carriers of phones on the list.
"The economy's seen better days, the market is nearly saturated, and it already seems like there might be a couple players too many for profit"
-the US economy is down. its goin into the ground. but huawei wants to stick around.
"so what's an up-and-coming Chinese firm to do? Invite foreign investment, naturally. Huawei has retained Morgan Stanley to help it line up investors"
-gimme gimme doh. gimme doh. gimme gimme doh.
"that can bulk it up enough to wage a broadsided offense against the low-end American market, leaving the mid and high-range lineups to the well-established companies that are already making a splash up there."
-ok seems like u might need plain english for this one.
they are going to focus on inexpensive handsets like the ones theyve been making already instead of making feature filled or smart phones.
"It's pretty rare for a Chinese corporation of Huawei's size and clout to open itself up to cash from outside Chinese borders, so the deal's expected to attract a lot of interest"
-look over there! its a bird, its a plane, no... ...its a deal to get in on a chinese cell phone maker and im interested!
"theoretically setting the scene for plenty more of its wares on US carriers' shelves. We're all for healthy competition, and if Huawei can shake things up a bit, we're all for it."
-theyve got it! yeah baby theyve got!
there. i have literally interpreted the entire post for u. i fail to see what was "anti-chinese" about it. if anything, they said it is going to attract interest, result in more phones, and they are "all for it."
sorry man, but i'm not going to interpret any more posts for you. before you decide to comment on anything again, you should really have mommy or daddy explain the article to you first.
PS:
"Chinese companies knocking off the iPhone always hear it from you"
-yeah, because they are phones that are total knock offs (as you inferred in your own sentence) and they were designed to be knock offs. im sure a clothing company making "adidaas" shirts would be discussed in the same manner on a blog about fashion.
"Nokia and samsung blatantly knock it off"
-their phones are not knock offs and were not designed to be knock offs. let me repeat for you, most of the chinese ones WERE MEANT TO BE knock offs.
"the question becomes 'how can you not knock it off when trying to make a touch phone?'"
-no, the question becomes "wow what kind of idiots are out there in this world?" and yes, i have you in mind. when people say nokia and samsung phones are knock offs, they are usually basing that on the looks, just because it is a touch screen phone that has few or no buttons and rounded edges. beyond that, the phones are completely different. the os, hardware, features, and other parts of the design are their own. arguably even the look is its own. so yes, how many different ways are there to have a retangular touch screen phone with few or no buttons look? but the chinese knockoffs are purposely designed to look, feel, and sometimes operate the same way. if you cannot understand the difference after my explanation, then maybe the studies are correct that cell phone use can cause brain damage. u must be a heavy talker! oh, by the way, did you read about the new study that said phones are yummy with sugar on them? go shove one down your throat, ktnxbai.

one more thing "ann" "dude" or whoever u r... ur wild claims are getting really old and if you dont like EM so much then why do you keep reading it? it might be different if you had some solid evidence to back up your remarks, but looking through your history reveals a continued pattern of slander. if you really believe what you are saying is true, why are you so ashamed of stating your name? i enjoy reading EM and most of the intelligent discussion that takes place here, but i dont appreciate you bringing such trash into the community.
go eff yourself @ May 13th 2008 10:56AM
Trash? like all your previous posts concerning Chinese products or anything Chinese in general? What about some time back you guys put up some stupid post about the CCP in space as if trying to make some jackass political commentary or some silly shit as if it really had anything to do with tech/gadgets besides the spaceship that you mentioned nothing of. Am I really slandering? Your posts continually have an underlying tone on willful ignorance whenever it comes to anything Chinese. Why am i so easily offended? because titles like this promote the Sinophobia that currently runs rampant and probably gets taken pretty serious by idiots like you. I know you guys are joking, but truth is many jackasses (such as you) would read a post like this and go nuts thinking America and China were about to goto war.
And yes the Chinese knockoffs are designed to be knockoffs, but nowadays even the ones that aren't get that same treatment regardless by pricks like you, its pricks like you that stereotype Chinese products.
"the phones are completely different. the os, hardware, features, and other parts of the design are their own."
Are you stupid? the Nokia touch phone looks exactly the same and the hardware is probably going to be quite similar.
Designs of their own? This is exactly the kind of shit I'm talking about, you act as if none of these bigger name companies don't "borrow" ideas, but like i said when a Chinese company does it, even when it's isn't trying to it 's branded as a knockoff .
So like I said, take their dongs out of your ass n mouth and why don't you come up with something more serious.
And your right about one thing, it's not this post specifically I'm talking about, it's this plus all of the previous posts that have set me off.
And just so you don't forget, I'm talking about the UNDERLYING tones of all your Chinese related posts, and don't give me any bullshit about you guys didn't say anything outright racist. You can damn well be racists without using racial slurs .
And who the hell ever leaves their real name on any blog??
And who the hell are you? internet celebrity? i never heard of you before, considering the length of your post, you're probably Chris Ziegler. jackass.
and I don't keep reading it, i read it once in a while and for some reason nearly everytime i do i stumble upon one of your jackass posts by one of your prick writers.
youngcalihottie @ May 13th 2008 7:03PM
youre out of control.
for one, im not chris. for two, im not going to continue this conversation any further than to say that you are doing more with your own words to make chinese people look bad than anything that has been posted in this blog. i personally have no problem with any particular group of people, foreigners or otherwise. but really, if what you are saying was true, do you honestly think you are helping the case any?
