Nokia fans, S60 fans, Symbian fans of all types, your attention, please! Allow us to set your hearts a-flutter with a few pictures of Nokia's latest two all-business smartphones, the rumored
E66 and
E71. Both models are pictured here out and about, doing what they do best -- a promising indication that we might be due for an official announcement in the not-too-distant future. We're told that both have 3.2 megapixel cameras (as expected), 128MB of memory, and as we've suspected from the few photos we've seen before, they're "sleek and sexy" in the flesh. Nokia's manufacturing processes appear to be continuing to improve, too, because we're told that the E66 feels "rugged and solid" despite the slide mechanism -- a sore spot with many an N95 owner. Whenever you want to get official with these, Nokia, that would be just fine with us, thanks!

I'd rather have a functional phone than a "sexy" one
absurdio @ May 7th 2008 5:05PM
Yeah. Don't give 'em any ideas, engadget. There are more than enough sexy/useless phones out there, already.
Vijay @ May 7th 2008 6:26PM
If the E51 (which I have) is any indication, these would be quite functional AND sexy. The only thing on my wishlist for both of these is US (AT&T) 3G. Anything less would be uncivilized.
Engadgetluvsappl @ May 7th 2008 12:28PM
Yawn. It doesn't even seem to have FP2...
rodak69 @ May 7th 2008 12:31PM
First! Gr8 news!
Omagus @ May 7th 2008 4:25PM
Yet another reason why this whole "FIRST!" business is never, ever, EVER necessary.
luiz @ May 7th 2008 12:36PM
yay i live in espoo :D
Pdexter @ May 7th 2008 1:10PM
Same! About 1½km from the Nokia House(HQ).
Can i get high ranking too?
King Mustard @ May 7th 2008 12:39PM
I had zero problems with two of my Nokia N95's sliders. They've both been solid and didn't creak in the slightest.
Pdexter @ May 7th 2008 12:42PM
E65 was one of the best feeling sliders ever made and Nokia can make great sliders....N95 with the dual slider is another story.
Anyways E66 super hot and if E71 is that 10mm thin....yummy.
E71 will be my next love. Too bad with leaving fp2 out thought :(
Engadgetluvsappl @ May 7th 2008 12:43PM
BTW, Are you trying to say that the 8800 Arte isn't good looking and feature filled? It's probably the best looking phone with good specs available on the market, can you guess which company it's from?... Yeah.
youngcalihottie @ May 7th 2008 8:58PM
get real!
88xx has never been feature filled. totally a fashion line. and after 1 phone call your battery is dead.
give me a break!

the e66 looks like a kinda sexy, kinda sleek, hysterically technically gifted, but not cute-looking phone that i could buy.
Pdexter @ May 7th 2008 1:14PM
Btw whats up with that horrible menu. Is it branded or new theam?
Give me fp2 Nokia..damnit!
r3loaded @ May 7th 2008 2:50PM
I noticed that too...the icons look so janky. Hopefully those phones were just running some dev build or something.
I'd wish they'd make a phone that had the N96 functionality and the E61 keyboard
Big Al @ May 7th 2008 1:16PM
What do they mean, "in the wild" - it looks like those pictures are on a cement surface, not the wilderness
youngcalihottie @ May 7th 2008 8:58PM
ur kidding right?
Mankato @ May 7th 2008 1:17PM
Do we have any idea which carrier is going to have those phones???
L @ May 7th 2008 1:30PM
Looks like its time to upgrade my E61i ;)
gordon @ May 7th 2008 2:03PM
I'll be upgrading from my E61 to the E71 . I tried the e51 and it's superb but I'm intent on waiting for the E71. Notice the 4 buttons(calender, mail, contacts, home) besides the d-pad, makes it very intuitive for novice users.
Heathen @ May 7th 2008 3:43PM
Yes me too providing the E71 has better RF my E61i has terrible signal strength. My N95-3 really kicks butt in that department so here's hoping they took the same RF care in the building of the E71. As it looks to me to be the perfect mix of features. (unless of course Nokia releases a N series with all the features of the N95 and a QWERTY Gasp!)

The bronze 7373 says "what's up!"

cromas @ May 7th 2008 1:45PM
I was a S60 fan...until I tried anything else.
numbsock @ May 7th 2008 1:49PM
man that E66 is one hot piece of mobile hotness! =)
bachviet @ May 7th 2008 1:55PM
T-Mobile US: Please bring the E71 with AWS and my next 2-year contract will be yours.
john @ May 7th 2008 2:01PM
Give me an E71 with:
0) T-Mo-USA compatible 3G (and AT&T 3G) .. bonus for global GSM/WCDMA compatibility
1) Maemo and/or Android ("and" meaning "Maemo with Android extensions")
2) Wifi for web browsing; bonus for UMA ("hotspot at home")
3) Bluetooth dun, OR the ability to securely tether clients via Wifi, OR compatibility with Cradlepoint devices (pref dun _AND_ either of the other two).
and I am SO there.
I suppose they could skimp on Maemo/Android and give me Symbian instead ... I'd have to think about it. But if it was Symbian but had all of the other non-optional stuff, I'd probably buy it. If it was Symbian and had the optional stuff, I'd definitely buy it. Maemo/Android and optional stuff, I'll buy it the day it comes out in the US.
Pdexter @ May 7th 2008 2:53PM
Maemo or Android wont of course happen it even seem to be missing the newest S60(S60 3th 2fp)that comes with N78, N96 and 6220 with the transition effect + other stuff.
Wifi is 100% it being E series phone.
AT&T 3G is rumoured to be there same like N78 and N95 where there's 2 vers for both market US and Euro/Asia. So the US version will get released in a same time as the Asian/European one....same with N78.
john @ May 7th 2008 3:09PM
I assumed it would have AT&T 3G. The actual requirement for #1 is T-Mobile USA 3G. No T-Mobile 3G, no deal.
Keith @ May 7th 2008 3:01PM
Where was this taken? When does the E71 come out?
Razor1973 @ May 7th 2008 3:45PM
I can't believe I've waited this long for a phone. Thank God for my E61 and E61i! That E71 can't make it here quick enough!
Damian Trevor @ May 7th 2008 4:09PM
The carrier question is a very good one. Damian Trevor
AlphaTeam @ May 7th 2008 4:20PM
Looks like crap.
Rex @ May 7th 2008 5:24PM
Crap generally is brownish in color, and cylindrically-shaped - kind of like a fat cigar with an irregular surface. So, not sure how these phones look "like crap". Maybe you need a new monitor? or new contact lenses?
Omagus @ May 7th 2008 4:32PM
Has anyone what the screen size is on the E71?
bachviet @ May 7th 2008 9:12PM
It's only 2.36", which is way smaller than the E61/E61i (2.8").
FRiC @ May 7th 2008 10:43PM
I have an E65 and love it, but the only problem is that I get dust under the screen. I had it cleaned twice in one year, and now it's dusty again. Looks like a good reason to upgrade to the E66.
Ank @ May 8th 2008 12:29AM
I havent been soo excited about a phone for a long time, but I am for the E71.
I love my E61i but it is too slow and a little wide. Im assuming that the E71 will have a faster processor (like the E51 which is fastt) and that alone should make it a fabulous phone! The addition of GPS and FM will be welcome bonuses!
Have been waiting for some release info since Jan... but now it looks like its finally happening!
Tom @ May 8th 2008 8:09AM
That black and white logo on the far right of the shortcut bar represents a new profile feature in Nokia phones (maybe just within the e series, not sure). This will allow users to change from 'personal' to 'business' mode and vice versa. As far as I know, this will enable users to change their mailbox, phonebook list, general appearance etc. at the press of a button. Designed to allow users to easily separate their personal and business lives. Kinda cool...
Mark @ May 8th 2008 9:16AM

Ank @ May 8th 2008 2:26PM
Thanks. Great pics!
jonathan hirschman @ May 8th 2008 10:47AM
My e61 is a buggy piece of crap. The only reason why I still have it is because I can't deal with Windows, and Palm's offerings haven't been compelling for a long time.
I'd only consider the e71 if I had a 2-4 week no-questions-asked guarantee, and then everything would have to work perfectly out of the box. No more of this waiting for updates to fix major bugs, and never have the updates arrive.
Yeah, consider me to be a very disaffected Nokia customer :)
TareX @ May 9th 2008 5:30AM
I love my E65. Perfect phone, perfect size. But I realize now that I need "more" than Symbian. Android could be the answer, so I'm waiting for the HTC Dream.
Also, I don't know why Nokia isn't jumping on the hi-res screen bandwagon... It makes a world of difference with the overall interface and video files.... And it's not like the Nokia phones are cheap or anything.
