Danger CEO talks up new Sidekick model
If anyone should be carrying Danger's latest Hiptop in their pocket, it's probably the company's CEO -- and sure enough, head honcho Hank Nothhaft disclosed that he was indeed rocking an unreleased model during a recent interview with Financial Times. Details were slim for the picking, but he said the phone -- which we can only assume to be the Gekko -- is "thinner and less wide but has a bigger keyboard." A paradox? Seemingly, so we can only assume that the area dedicated to navigation buttons on the left and right of the phone has been slimmed down to accommodate the bulkier QWERTY. Nothhaft also mentions that he considers Tessera Technologies a "company to watch," so if we had to wager a guess, we'd say that the firm's unique camera lenses might just be finding their way into a Hiptop near you.

No Microsoft software?
Seriously, what is the future of this device now that Microsoft owns them? I'm extremely hesitant to upgrade to a new Sidekick because I worry that the platform will be altered or scrapped.

MS stated that the reason behind the purchase of Danger was to acquire their expertise and infrastructure for their OTA model. It's unlikely we'll see a change of the sidekick OS from the hiptop OS to windows mobile for atleast a couple of years. They could use danger's help on the windows mobile OS front as well! ;)

and most of the exciting and useful new features will be quickly gimped or disabled by t-mobile usa, just as theyve done with every other sidekick branded hiptop.

Ghetto dwellers on T-Mobile get confused by options. They need a kid-like interface, that's why every T-Mobile phone is gimped.

@Mark.... what do u mean by "GHETTO DWELLERS?" Was that a racist remark?

You're all wrong. The Gekko is the kiddie device, while the Aspen is the device the CEO is carrying.
This has been known for some time now. Ask your "friends".

So that settles it, then. Aspen and Gekko aren't just codenames for new colours. They're actually new devices.
Honestly, I'd get a Sidekick if not for their tainted status. And the fact that T-Mobile reception in my area sucks and T-Mobile doesn't have 3G yet.
