T-Mobile's 3G network started going live today, and it looks like that
early word from a company memo may not hold true for all users. Some markets may in fact have a silent soft-launch of faster data rates, we've heard from several tipsters who've said that they're already getting faster data service, and now the company itself getting the word out that it's launching data as well. But company peeps were indeed instructed to make sure customers don't count on that faster data being present; bottom line is you may have it, you may not (but if you take T-Mobile at its word, you should). NYC is the first market to
light up, but others should come online soon -- anyone trying it out? How's it going? Hit us up in comments and let us know!

my effort is not in vain
NYers, grab 6263, add total internet, tether with laptop, and enjoy!

Doesn't the old t-zones tethering trick still work by setting your APN to wap.voicestream.com?

Hope they get some newer HTC devices. The current stuff is OK but so slow compared to my E51. I thought the shadow would support the 1700Mhz bands but I went to a store in Sacramento today the sales guy and I only saw the "E" light come on. I'm a sad panda.

e61i has UMTS on the 2100 band. correct me if i'm wrong but i'm pretty sure need a phone that has it on 850/1900.

Nope- T-Mobile uses a weird combination of 1700 and 2100 for 3G because that was all the FCC gave out. Stupid FCC...
Firtch @ May 4th 2008 11:38AM
No, not some "weird combination," just 1700. But their phones are 2100/1700 combo so they're compatible with most 3G 'round the world. Hex-band!
cee2k @ May 5th 2008 10:14PM
Wasn't imate suppose dto release somephones on the 1700 band?
