BlackBerry Kickstart flip gets more details, T-Mobile branding included
If it weren't for RIM's "help, we're stuck in 2006 and can't get out!" approach of topping this thing out with EDGE data, we'd be all over its warm embrace of an all-new form factor -- but yeah, seriously RIM, what's up with that? Boy Genius Report has outed a few more alleged specs of Waterloo's first foray into the clamshell market, the Kickstart -- and it looks like we can expect a 2 megapixel cam, SureType (as though we couldn't have figured that out ourselves), internal QVGA and external 160 x 128 displays, WiFi, and a true 3.5mm headphone jack. We're also seeing some new shots with T-Mobile branding, which makes sense considering the carrier's longstanding efforts to be on RIM's bleeding edge. Oh, and just for the humor factor, RIM appears to be drawing parallels between the Kickstart and a few... uh, "objects," such as the "anodized color" similar to that found on an "urban nomad tool." So this is how product development goes down -- explains a lot!

Chris: Do you guys ever get tired of ragging on the carrier? I know there was the whole Magenta incident, but come on now? Your articles are becoming overly predictable and less innovative.
I wouldn't buy this device per se either, but I'm sure there are several more would and I'm sure they'd appreciate reading an informative post sans your terrible attitude and personal beef with T-Mobile. Just a thought.

Not seeing the anti-T-Mobile angle here. Can you explain a bit?

Whether T-Mobile or another carrier, the service is an extremely important factor. The best phone in the world (which this isn't) on the worst carrier in the world (which T-Mobile isn't...though it's 4th place at best) is kind of a raw deal, and any news source worth its bandwidth ought to point that out.
SLVR6 @ May 2nd 2008 1:51PM
Chris, I think he was referring to the comment about T-Mobile's effort to be on RIM's Bleeding Edge, to which you can just made comments about at the beginning of the blog.
Matt @ May 2nd 2008 2:18PM
He may also be talking about how T-Mobile launched 3G in NYC with voice and DATA. Many people reported that data speeds where much improved. They (Engadget) was quick to point out hearsay about the voice only, but when it was made clear that Data was working too, they posted nothing about that.

Oh, don't get all P*ssy hurt, T-Mobile Fanboys. There is no carrier that gets a rawer around here than Sprint, while in reality Sprint is leaps and bounds over T-Mobile.
Matt @ May 2nd 2008 3:06PM
Yeah and when Sprint gets picked on, the Sprinters get all bent out of shape, too. Maybe if Sprint wasn't such a retarded company with poor customer policies, customer and revenue loses that were not so bad, they wouldn't get treated like shit.

See the big BGR on the photo?? Why not credit the real source?
Chris Ziegler @ May 2nd 2008 3:03PM
What in the heck are you talking about? Did you bother to click the read link or the picture?
Chris
Codey H. @ May 2nd 2008 3:52PM
source: BGR
Codey H. @ May 2nd 2008 3:53PM
You credit it to PhoneArena...
Chris Ziegler @ May 2nd 2008 4:01PM
No I don't, phoneArena is the via. Are you familiar with how the site works? If we get information via another site, we list the intermediary site as a via and the original source as the read link and picture link.

burn!
Codey H. @ May 2nd 2008 4:36PM
You're right.. I just noticed the PhoneArena, and had previously saw it on BGR.. wanted correct credit where it was due.
Carry on, strike one bad on me.

Just to keep things into perspective, this is just a blog. Perhaps though we should just stick with the facts and not let our personal opinions or natural biases affect the topic.
The product looks interesting. Whether or not the local T-Mobile network is great or not is irrelevant to me since wireless technology doesn't guarantee anyone flawless coverage everywhere. Some of the people saying T-Mobile "sucks," in such generalities are lame because service quality differs from block to block with all carriers.
I believe this will sell well. Heck, RIM's stock surged on its news and if marketed right, this looks like a hit - 3G or not. There are lots of reasons why people buy products and their reasons may be just a bit over the head of some cell phone junkies comprehension.
Look outside the box sometimes.

i bet that 3g will be available in the future via a rom update once tmob gets a little more comfortable with 3g.
