T-Mobile rolling out 3G tomorrow in New York, sorry New Jersey
Our best friends at T-Mobile are getting set to roll out 3G in New York soon -- real soon, as was previously expected. New York will launch on May 1, to be exact, according to TmoNews.com. That's, like, tomorrow. The leaked document promises T-Mobile customers the "great call quality they've come to expect...and more network availability". The rest of the network will be rolled out in 2008 to 20 markets, including Los Angeles, Detroit, San Diego, Austin, Las Vegas, Minneapolis, Miami, and several more. As TmoNews.com points out, New Jersey and Long Island are mysteriously off the list. View all the launch cities after the break.

unlocked phones will work.... if you have the right band for 3g. don't forget that t-mobile bought up 1700 band licenses to launch their 3g on. the t-mobile phones with 3g use 1700, so...
Matt @ Apr 30th 2008 11:48AM
Yepper. Sorry, it doesn't work that way.

I believe parts of long Island will infact be launched tomorrow, as the towers have been ready to go for quite some time

I believe parts of long Island will not be launched tomorrow, as the towers are not ready to go. For quite some time

Are you sure it will be only 1700? I found another reference in an earlier Engadget post that it will be 1700 & 2100.
MBN @ Apr 30th 2008 1:10PM
That's my question. No doubt they will use 1700 UMTS, but is it ONLY 1700 in ALL markets, or will some markets use other bands?
jrk @ Apr 30th 2008 2:03PM
if you are referring to this post:
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2006/10/06/t-mobile-details-3g-plans/
note the 2100 band that would be used is NOT the same as the european, and so unlocked would still not work. i know, it's dumb, it annoys me, but that's life, so.. yeah.

No Salt Lake City?! I'm meeellllting... what a world, what a world.

Yeah, I think some of you's misunderstood what I was saying. I was commenting on unlocked phones, but any phone in general. If you don't have a 1700 radio on your phone, then you're not getting on T-mo 3G anytime at all. Unless someone confirms that they're going to use 2100 as well.
Marty @ Apr 30th 2008 1:39PM
Oh god and baby jesus why can't I type today? In my last post, I meant to say, "I was NOT commenting..." on just unlocked phones... ugh.

Aww not Hawaii? It's probably one of the easiest places to upgrade. Not to mention tmobile has been around the longest of most of the digital carriesr. :(
