Not one sign of an 8120 near a retail store..seems wifi is some sort of useless feature, and that RIM couldnt come up with a 3G platform to cover its proverbial butt in time to release either one of these iterations. Hope its free from glitches, happy reporting!

Cing Emp

Comments on WiFi-less BlackBerry 8110 showing up in AT&T stores

... the slightly less 802.11-inclined 8110..."
Idk, to me that was just really funny.

-----

..moving on. WTF IS IT WITH AT&T?! Why can't they sell a BlackBerry with GPS, WiFi, AND a camera? On behalf of my fellow Engadgeteers, I will write a letter to AT&T, I will put my English degree* to good use.

Dear AT&T,
WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU?! Give us a fully spec'd Blackberry--make that two, one with a fully QWERTY and another with that half-cocked SureType that seems to be sellin' like "crack-injected hotcakes." We'll let you get away with these 2.5G iterations, but the next set better come equipped with the aforementioned in addition to 3G.

derX

*I don't actually have a degree in English

derX

Comments on WiFi-less BlackBerry 8110 showing up in AT&T stores

Don't blame AT&T, blame RIM. They're the ones making the blackberries that lack 1 or more features. Carriers have the option whether they want these features on the phones. Like AT&T's Pearl had PTT while others didn't. I'm too lazy to check right now, but I am pretty positive that TMobile's newest iteration of the Pearl has both WiFi and GPS.

Long story short: Blame the carriers, not RIM.

derX

Comments on WiFi-less BlackBerry 8110 showing up in AT&T stores

The 8130 has both 3G support and access to VZ Navigator.

If AT&T or T-Mobile pressured RIM to provide them with a product that included a 3G Radio, GPS capability for audible turn by turn directions and Wi-Fi, they'd do it.

I love the form factor and call quality of my T-Mobile Pearl 8120, but would welcome GPS support in addition to WiFi.

Once 3G is blanketed everywhere by AT&T and T-Mobile, WiFi might seem less important but GPS capability will continue to remain high as we head into 2009.

Daniel

Comments on WiFi-less BlackBerry 8110 showing up in AT&T stores

and by "slightly less" we mean "non-existant"

lol

i was rofl @ "slightly less inclined"

i would LOVE to hear an AT&T rep say "or for $50 less we have this other blackberry. it looks the same but is slightly less 802.11-inclined"

or

"yes Mr. Smith this used car will be great for you! it has a radio, heater, and a slightly less cooling-inclined a/c"

youngcalihottie

Comments on WiFi-less BlackBerry 8110 showing up in AT&T stores

Not sure anyone cares much but it also has video recording.
Thats a plus to me. 8)

Antonio
