As far as we're concerned, right up until the
Glyde is released, there's simply no such thing as "too many Glyde shots." Like the phone or hate it, are we at least all in agreement there? The latest round brings us a handful of photos of a dummy model, presumably destined for a Verizon or authorized dealer store somewhere within the US of A. Our initial impression is that it's just a tad thicker than we'd like, but we owe it to ourselves (and Verizon, for that matter) to hold off on panning the bulge until we feel it for ourselves. Click on, people!

A 2.0 MP camera is just not going to cut it any more. We want at least a 3 and preferably a 5.0 MP and autofocus is a must. Im tired of spending my hard earned money on inferior products.

I too have to agree with you on the 2.0MP camera.. I mean, Samsung can offer the same phone w/ a 5MP camera and NO keyboard in a SMALLER phone for GSM? BS! With the new iphone coming out that has a chip to support a 5MP camera, I'm thinkin about dumping Verizon.

You guys have to remember that the majority of the cell phone using population aren't like we are, the Engadget Mobile reader/commenters. A 2.0MP, actually, to me, seems to be more than sufficient. This is not a smart phone; it is just a texting phone probably aimed at tweens. A 2.0MP is fine to snap a shot of a friend doing something he'd probably not want to remember or for getting a snap of a dog on a skateboard.
If this were a smart phone, I'd totally agree. Put a 2.0MP camera on the next iPhone (okay, I get it, its smart phone status is controversial), the next iteration of the BlackJack line and there'd be a problem. But this, this seems to be okay.

OMG, Where do I start?? I was waiting for someone to tell me to go and get a digital camera, how predictable. I already own a point and shoot as well as a DSLR, but I can't wait for the day when I can finally put aside the point and shoot. While nothing can replace my nice Nikon D300, who wants to carry around a non DSLR camera when you can have it in your celly? My cell phone camera has really come in handy in all kinds of situations. Obviously you don't expect much from your gadgets but I sure as hell do. Why have just a cell phone when you can have a smartphone, camera, and mp3 player all in one?

Another thing we have to understand is that most people aren't phone crazy and want a 5MP camera phone, the majority of the population doesn't care!
Besides a 5MP phone will cost more then a 2MP phone, and not a lot of people will shell out more dollars because it has a "nice camera", plus it most cost samsung more money to put a higher megapixel camera on a phone, and thats money they don't want to spend if they don't have too.

No offense bro, but if you wanted a 5MP phone, you would be paying top dollar for it, something that these phones are NOT targeted for. This phone is targeted for the everyday who's wanting a little more, not the camera enthusiast.
Don't get me wrong, I'm with you on the situation. I hate seeing phones with 2MP as a standard. Give me some 3.2MPs or something. But you gotta think about their target audience.
If you're gonna go buy a Samsung G810, you bought it for it's 5MP camera with 3X optical zoom, WiFi, GPS, etc.
You can't just expect every phone to come in blazing high-end features because majority of the population wouldn't use a 5MP camera on their phone as much as you or I would.

Even though I am still following the "release" of the Glyde, I am all but over this phone. Had it been released sooner, I would have probably signed with Verizon by now.
However, with all of the new devices being released by the end of the year I think I would prefer to wait it out. Vu, 3G iPhone, Dare (VX9700), Android devices, etc. Too many other good phones coming out for me to jump on the Glyde when it is finally released.

All of you who complain about the camera, realize this... high MP count means absolutely nothing if it has an inferior lens and image sensor. Until phones get quality optics and a decent sized sensor, the images are going to look like shit. The photos I've seen from the 5mp camera phones, are easily distinguished from even a 3mp point and shoot. All it does it give you a larger, shitty image, instead of a smaller image.
It's going to be a few years before camera phones can actually take photos that are print worthy, unless you have no eye for photos and would want to print what you shoot from your camera now. If that's the case, enjoy.

I have been reading so many posts and articles of the Glyde and how great it will be but, in my opinion, no matter how you slice it, it still will not be better than the current iPhone. 1 of the major features of the iPhone that I like is the internal 8-16gb storage for music. No one has mentioned this in regards to the Glyde. You have to buy a micro sd card, and even then it won't approach the iPhone in terms of capacity, plus who wants to spend more money on a card? I love the fact that I can combine my iPod and celly all in one. Storage capacity aside, AT&T's iPhone price plan, which included unlimited data, is far more competitive than Verizon's. And I know everyone will say how much better Verizon's coverage is but I just don't buy that.

There are two big differences between the iPhone and the Glyde - the qwerty keyboard, and the ability to tether. For many powerusers, including myself, these are huge differences.
Sick of waiting for the Glyde, I'm currently testing out the Voyager - the biggest issue I have with the Voyager is that they *stupidly* put the space 'bar' as buttons on the side of the keyboard! WTF?
Can anybody who uses any of these Verizon gadgets say if there is *any* way to truly multitask and hotswitch between, say, IM and email? Or hey, even a way to leave email running when you go to another app? (The lack of push email, coupled with it quitting whenever you switch away, is *really* an issue.)

i had this phone in my hand today at a vzw retail store. i just asked if they had one and the manager said yes but it does not go on sale for a week or so. i messed around with it. it seems like a cool small phone. i would say it is the voy's little cousin. no vzw tv service from what i can see from the menus i went trough. but it is small i would say the size of sprints samsung a900m but a little thicker. im thinking of getting one but i would like to have the tv service. also vzw needs to get a streaming radio service like sprint.
