Would you elect the president via text message? 61 percent say 'Y'
According to a recent, sensational survey from Samsung Mobile, 61 percent of lazy, distracted, and impossibly ignorant cellphone users over the age 18 say they would be comfortable casting their vote for President of the United States via a text message. Meanwhile, the totally serious and meaningful survey found that eight in ten (or 80 percent) of teens under the legal voting age would use their mobile devices to cast a ballot in the election. Additionally, Samsung Mobile discovered that 90 percent of cellphone users would like an ice cream cone, while another 87 percent would like an ice cream cone only after eating a quarter-pounder with cheese. Soon Samsung Mobile hopes to determine what percentage, if any, of the people surveyed know who is running for the office of president.

Did the pic have to be a Verizon device? Seems like when there is a story about "lazy, distracted, and impossibly ignorant cellphone users" and it's related to a survey that says nothing about Verizon Wireless, the pic might not have a company name on it. Just a thought.

I don't see how voting via cell phone is any different than an absentee ballot. Is the U.S. mail somehow safer?
iofthestorm @ Apr 21st 2008 10:20PM
Well, for one thing, cell phones are easier to make a mistake on, and then there's the obvious fact that there's no verification method- steal someone's phone, send a text message and vote for them, whee! Of course, they could set up some complex password system but cell phones just inherently feel more insecure. And honestly, I wouldn't want braindead teenagers who text message 24/7 to vote.
(nonbraindead teenager who's sent a total of 3 text messages ever).

oh ya because you know theres *no way* anyone could steal the mail like they could a phone. and passwords are definitely less secure than a piece of paper that has everything written out on it in plain sight once opened. and i dont think text voting would change the voting age, so it has nothing to do with "braindead teenagers". other countries have made it work.

"And honestly, I wouldn't want braindead teenagers who text message 24/7 to vote."
Iofthestorm, you fail to realize that those braindead teenagers grow up to be braindead adults. At least given the ability to vote at a young age, I think, it would make people become more politically active (i.e.: voting), at the very least, perhaps even more politically conscious. When voting becomes easier, as many complain--which is funny, because I already think the process to be easy enough--more people will participate.
But I wholly agree, cell phones do seem inherently more insecure than any other method of which I can think.

youngcalihottie @ Apr 23rd 2008 6:19PM

Hehe... Yhea... Just think about it?! how can the Mighty U.S. fall or get overtaken with a simpe and everyday action wich will cause even a goverment change?! hmmm... how about hacking the network and changing the votes?! ha?! :} let's let At&t, Verizon, Sprint etc... choose you'r goverment for you... is anybody gettin' this?!
it's easy enough to steal the election in it's current state... so why not make it a bit better before it will be an unneeded and precise system... such as a very "NOT!" hackable and People controlled Celluar networks/Devices....
This is even a dumber idea than Mr. Bush himself could have offered...
And if it will be properley guarded with security it will probably be harder for most then to just walk up to the ballot's on foot.... ofcourse those who answered the survey don't even realize that they will probably need to enter a buttload of codes and Verifacation Numbers and I.D.'s I know my dad won't be able to manage such a thing and he is not technologicley challenged....
How about trying to make life better and not easier in such unnecsarry things?! eh?!
