HP iPAQ 900 series smartphone hits the FCC

HP's iPAQ 900 series smartphones haven't exactly had the smoothest of releases ('round these parts at least) since they were first announced way back in September of last year, but one of 'em has at least managed to recently trickle out into the hands of the lucky folks at the FCC, which could possibly indicate that it's actually nearing a US release. In case you missed it, the Windows Mobile-based phone was previously hinted as coming to AT&T in its iPAQ 910 incarnation, although the FCC unsurprisingly doesn't have anything to say about that possibility. If you want a better idea of what may be in store, however, you can find plenty of pics of the device (including a peek at its innards) and its complete manual at the link below.

doesn't this look like the Motorola Q9m/Q9c?

yeah it does

I was thinking it looked like an uglier version of the BB Curve, but I guess it does look more like the Q9m/Q9c

The manual's magenta colors look kind of like T-Mobile's tradmarked magenta. Hmmm... but the device doesn't have T-Mo's 1700 3G band so maybe not.

I'm pretty sure the magenta headings are a standard HP color for their manuals. I have an iPAQ 310 portable GPS and it has the same color in its manual.

Wow I had given up hope on this phone ever seeing the light of day.
I strongly prefer the slim qwerty slab form factor and have really been waiting for something with a fast processor, 128 MB of RAM, wifi and GPS.
Also looks like they've changed up the styling a little bit since the preproduction units: http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/09/27/hps-ipaq-912-business-messenger-gets-handled/

looks way better than 6915 but i hope they'll provide firmware updates this time as the 69xx serie is stuck to WM5.

The "Internal Photos" one looks exactly like the one at http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/09/27/hps-ipaq-912-business-messenger-gets-handled/ and not like the picture above, look at the keypad.
Interesting.

You're right, that's odd.
Also while we're at it, the line drawings in the manual match the styling in the External Photos.
Maybe they re-designed the front faceplate and keypad at some point after they took the Internal Photos and didn't bother to re-shoot the photos after the styling changes, since the guts are still the same?

Out performs Moto Qh/m/c in its various incarnations (check for WiFi, GPS, Memory, Speed, OS). I just hope they get it out and don't clip too many functions once AT&T messes around with it. Hopefully HP keeps offering an unlocked version (ie for the business market).
