LG Voyager coming to Sprint, AT&T this year?

Korea's Electronic Times is quoting a mysterious LG "official" as saying that the company's Voyager -- the high-end touchscreen flipper currently on Verizon -- will be making the leap to both AT&T and Sprint before the year's out. Although that isn't necessarily an outlandish thing to believe (Verizon's exclusivity period probably lasts 12 months at most, after all), it implies that at least two additional versions of the Voyager would have to be in the works: a CDMA piece without MediaFLO for Sprint and, of course, a GSM variant for AT&T. The news comes on the heels of LG's triumphant claim that they've shipped a whopping 1.1 million Voyagers since launch -- a pretty impressive number considering that the phone just launched at the very tail end of 2007 -- and a number that could pretty easily triple if these other carrier deals turn out to be legit.[Thanks, Jeremy]

I can see them wanting to compete with the Samsung Instinct on Sprint, but do they want to compete with themselves (the Vu) on AT&T?

Interesting. Another thing for me to think about before picking up the Instinct. I like the idea of the tactile keyboard. Any Verizon users care to chime in?

I'm a verizon user. I could care less if the phone goes to other carriers. I personally would rather use it on our network. MediaFlo is extreemly impressisve on the device.

Why would ANYONE consider buying this when the XPERIA X1 is coming to AT&T? Why would anyone consider it when the Vu is on AT&T? I've used the Voyager... it's clumsy, its design - compared to the iPhone - looks like Windows 3.1 next to Windows XP. I just don't see the logic behind this.

Ive used the Voyager for about two weeks on my Verizon plan. The touch screen sucks on it. Compared to my iPhone, the touch screen is archaic. It is not as responsive, you have to press harder to get it to work, doesn't work if you use multiple fingers, and there is no way you can get typing using the on-screen keyboard like I can on iPhone. I got it because I thought it was going to be an iPhone killer. But it is apparent that those who say the touch screen is comparable to the iPhone has never used an iPhone. Who cares if it has haptic feedback with the screen sucks overall in comparison?

@ Numetheus - Such bitter hate. To bad that the touch screen technology is the same for the Apple iPhone and the LG Voyager. Both are Immersion Corp technology.

im new to engadget, so i appologize for posting out of order.
@Xeod : have you used the voyager and the iphone? i think not, because after using them both it is IMPOSSIBLE to think the screen technology is the same. for example, try to use a stylus on an iphone. if its a real iphone, you will get no reaction. the iphone screen is electrostatic and is NOT pressure sensetive. the screens are nothing alike. sorry to burst your bubble

It's not really LG competiting with LG. The Vu will be out shortly. The Voyager will come out later. Different designs. All touch Vu and LG VX9700 (vzw) vs Touch + QWERTY Voyager

You know the inside and outside screens of the Voyager are the same size, right?

Yea I dont really know exactly what you meant to accomplish with that other than sounding ignorant.
On the "v" style phones; Env, the V, voyager, Env2; the inside screen is always the larger of the two, with the exception of the Voyager where both screens are of equal size.
On a side note, the voyager is not all that it is cracked up to be, the internet browser is a mockery at best, the software itself is slow, the only thing that this phone has going for it is MediaFlo's tv, and that is only in select areas. The VU, Xperia-x1 and virtually any other touchscreen based media handset will be better in comparison to the Voyager, including in my opinon the glyde.

I think it would be nice to have the Voyager with Sprint as we currently only have the Rumor if we want a qwerty keyboard. It's good to have choices because the Rumor is ugly especially compared to the Voyager. I might stick with the Instinct myself.

Two things to take from this experience.
1) Dont post about something you obviously know nothing about.
2) IF you do post, its generally good to write it in a fashion that is coherent and in the form of actual words. Either your english is not your first language, or you just dont know how to home row, get these two in line first and you just might be a valuable addition to something, somewhere...
It just isnt going to be in regards to cellphones.

I highly doubt this is true as LG typically does NOT release the same model phones on different carries (aside from very low end cheap ass ones).

business is business... if something's selling well and verizon isn't willing to pay up for exclusivity, there is no reason not to release on different carriers. it is the only logical thing to do.

I hope this is true. The LG Voyager on Sprint would make a great phone for me to upgrade to. This would also be LG's first high-end phone for Sprint, all the others are going to AT&T, Verizon, and even Alltel. I can't wait for the Voyager to make its way to Sprint (hopefully).

I sold my iphone to get the voyager and I have no regrets. Until iphone 3g comes out within weeks, iphone users cannot browse on edge and get phone calls. Imagine that! A phone that doesn't take calls. Obviously the voyager browser requires some learning time...but once it is mastered, it comes close to iphone experience...youtube is the same on both phones using mobile version...att sucks...never could get a signal in a building...Voyager rocks
