iPhone contacts search and meeting invite revealed
Remember that sweet little magnifying glass from the iPhone SDK demo? Well apparently we all weren't having a shared hallucination -- it's in the enterprise version of firmware 2.0. Thanks to a tipster, we've now got shots of the search bar clearly hanging out at the top of the contacts list. While we're unraveling mysteries, you'll be happy to know that the little drawer button -- which did nothing in the regular old firmware we had -- is actually a meeting invitations folder, which displays the number of requests just like the SMS and mail icons. Other changes? Enterprise users don't get the app store or iTunes store icons. Boo. Check out the gallery below to see just exactly what we're talking about. Now, on to finding JFK's real killer!

And this is interesting why, exactly? Apple farts and it's a headline? Every mobile phone on the planet has contact search; but Apple does it and suddenly it's the best thing since sliced bread...

Stop being a douche.
EM is just reporting on the fact that the iPhone got a much-desired feature added to it. This is a blog about cellphones after all, no? If you don't like the article, then why waste your time telling everyone else? Some of us couldn't give two shits about your complaining.
On topic, it's probably gonna suck trying to touch the 'Spolight' icon to bring up the search bar. It's hard enough trying to hit 'M' and all I get is 'L', now I'm probably gonna be hitting the 'Add Contact' button.
I should get smaller fingers.

because having more iphone headlines makes engadget mobile more "Entertaining" in some way. How? I have no idea.

Now if they could just give us cut & paste already!

Hay I was just so upset by AT&T's Replacement after 3 BB 8800s I was told "you can take your pick of phones we sell" I hate the track ball & use Mac OS 10.5 so I said I would like a iPhone because pocket Mac will not update software. The advice from AT&T hi end device department was "Do you have a friend with a PC?" I said at the cost to me of only $400 I have a Vista Ultimate Hard drive (I hate that I should buy $400 dollar or $200 Vista Basic just to update my phone) in my Mac Pro but not in My Mac Book Pro.
They sent me a BlackBerry 8820 That does not help me anyone with advice I would love it

How did I get so out of touch with the mobile phone marketplace? Or is it the manufacturer's that are out of touch?
Why does every handset, even the high-end ones, end up being an issue of "either/or." Why can't I have enterprise functionality AND app/itunes store on the iPhone?
My company doesn't buy my phones for me, but I do use it for work because it makes my life easier. I am the same person, whether I'm at work or not at work - I'm just doing different things. Why can't my phone be the same way?
At this point it just shouldn't be hard to make my (realistic) dream device, but it seems that every current handset leaves at least one, if not more, features out.
Dream Phone:
3.5mm stereo jack
mini-USB charging
Wi-Fi calls
mini-USB PC connect
Outlook sync
3G data
MicroSD slot (at least 2GB)
2.0 MP camera (at least)
Wi-Fi browsing
Stereo Bluetooth
GPS

You just described the Nokia N95-3 as your dream phone (except for the charge via USB)
junk_mail77 @ Apr 9th 2008 4:29PM
I figured I would correct/ammend my dream phone feature list, in case any manufacturers are taking notes. This is roughly in priority order:
Dream Phone:
3.5mm stereo jack
mini-USB charging
Wi-Fi calls
mini-USB PC connect
Outlook sync
Qwerty Keyboard
Touch screen
3G data
MicroSD slot (at least 2GB)
2.0 MP camera (at least)
Wi-Fi browsing
Stereo Bluetooth
GPS

What I would add to the list:
- User-swappable battery
- More screen real estate...though the iPhone has enough for me, most smartphones don't
- Google Calendar sync to local phone calendar
- Good one-handed operation -- yes, I check email in the car, but only in traffic ;-)
- More voice-activated features (not asking for miracles, but letters/numbers? a few more commands?)
- Different models available for CDMA/EVDO and GSM/HSDPA

add in video calling and mobile tv!

no app store for enterprise users? what the hell? why can't that be an option set somewhere by administrators? man, I was really hoping to use my future personal iphone with my Exchange account, now im not so sure. ugh!

@dave (in case the comment system FAILS)
Its probably just on another page. As you can see in the pics there are 3 pages.

I wonder if it is possible to use the iphone with your corporate mail, if your company doesn't provide it for you. with my blackberry i can configure my work email account through the Blackberry internet server from the t-mobile website. It doesn't give me instant push email, but the 10 minute delay is manageable.
If I can't configure the iphone with my work email, it would be useless for me.
dave @ Apr 9th 2008 8:56PM
@rb
You're using Blackberry Internet Service..which means the Blackberry/TMobile either uses POP or IMAP to access your mail, then forwards it to your device. Your iPhone will work with this.

OMG! Steve was right, the iPhone really is 5 years ahead of anything out there!
ChrisTheFeral @ Apr 13th 2008 7:25AM
Wow, that is soooo amazing, I guess they are catching up to 4 years behind.. iPhone has nothing THAT great on it apart from its cool interface, feature wise it SUCKS
