Okay, let's just say this upfront: if this were real, it would've been lawyered into oblivion by now; Apple would've done everything in its power to make sure that every last trace of the image had been wiped off the interwebs. Be that as it may, we still think this image of a Photoshopped or physically modded iPhone (or both) makes for an interesting jumping-off point for discussion over the inevitable materialization of the so-called iPhone 2 in the near future: what do you want it to look like? We know
3G is in the cards, but we really haven't spent a lot of time obsessing over what physical changes could / should be in store. So yeah, let's all go ahead and get into it -- meanwhile, we'll be over here in the corner with our already black, already 3G, already open
N95 8GB trying to figure out why Creatures of the Deep is an
N-Gage launch title.

so these days people don't mind there NOT being an antenne for wifi etc ? :'D
come on
PeterF @ Apr 4th 2008 4:06PM
you WANT an antenna? what modern phones have external antennas anymore? they are ugly!
Juice @ Apr 4th 2008 4:21PM
Yeah dude GTFO with that antenna talk. This ain't 1992. I sure hope Apple makes the new iPhone rubberized the current one is slipperier than a bar of soap. Lame. Maybe another button. Apple is kind of leaning toward the belief of the buttons with the whole assigning another action to double click of the home button. If not why do that at all?
xnifex @ Apr 4th 2008 6:15PM
here was the link posted on BGR with another picture

Matt @ Apr 4th 2008 4:09PM
Yeah the N95 8gb that costs twice as much as the current iphone. That should be taken into consideration when you laughingly rip the iphone. I think spending $800 on a phone is absurd.
Anthony @ Apr 4th 2008 4:23PM
$800 (well, $700) for a *phone* is absurd.
However, break things down:
MP3 player - $250
Phone - $250
PMP - $400 (yes- you can watch movies on a 3" screen)
Not so bad now.
Seth A @ Apr 4th 2008 4:30PM
If I remember correctly, that was the exact "break down" Apple used when they came out with the iPhone, and people still complained about the price. Get used to it.
Matt @ Apr 4th 2008 4:35PM
Sure you can break it down all you want, but when it comes to actually putting the money together for a $779.00 phone (as it is listed on the Nokia site) it's a huge investment. No one goes out and buys a phone, an mp3 player, & a pmp at the same time.
Engadgetluvsappl @ Apr 4th 2008 5:40PM
Fool. The n95 8gb is unlocked and can be bought for $540.
Ziegler, why are you bashing creatures of the deep? You have no right considering that you're just another Apple fanboy like the rest of the Engadget team. "Philosophically"? Pfft, go buy some more Apples, fanboy.
Matt @ Apr 4th 2008 5:50PM
where can you buy the N95 for $540? The back of your van?
Engadgetluvsappl @ Apr 4th 2008 5:57PM
Dell, fool.
I'm not even American and I know that. Besides, $800 is only about 400 which is why you see about 10 n95s in any direction you look over here... Maybe that's because our networks are half decent...
Matt @ Apr 4th 2008 6:02PM
Is it also a requirement that you talk like an idiot, fool? I guess it is $580 on the Dell website so that is better, good job on browsing the web euro!
Engadgetluvsappl @ Apr 4th 2008 6:09PM
LOL you do know Americans are the ones stereotyped for being stupid?
Good luck finding a mildly decent phone over there while being charged for receiving calls/texts!
YourMomLuvsMe @ Apr 4th 2008 6:23PM
This isn't about stereotypes, you are what you are. I do not have money coming out of my a$$ to spend on a phone that has no insurance.
Juaquin @ Apr 4th 2008 6:37PM
Wow, I think I wandered into a Youtube thread...
Pdexter @ Apr 5th 2008 6:15AM
And you should consider that where ever Nokia really is playing you get N95 8GB with 2 years contract for free.... Thought for a NA customer price might hurt when non of the carriers have it.
I think it's still absurb for many state side customers to buy phones like N95, but it's just culture difference. Europe has been the number one spot always for mobile phones with Nordic companies(Nokia and SE)having over 50% of world mobile phones market and people think that mobile phone will be the las device that wraps it all together. Most of the NA market just wants free Razr.
Anthony @ Apr 4th 2008 4:10PM
Stick a decent camera in the thing & my ears'll perk up. Until then it's the N95 8gb for me. Otherwise the phone's a real looker (black, silver or otherwise).
Seth A @ Apr 4th 2008 4:10PM
Honestly, I really hope what the iPhone "looks" like doesn't change all too much. I like that look. If there is one thing I hope doesn't happen is any "Glossy" finish that could scratch, love the brushed metal on the back now. Either way, only astetic changes being with added functions. Camera with added Flash, changing the back. Some sort of "Action" button on the side that could be used for the camera, ect. Headphone port that isn't recessed. Other than that, keep it how it is, thinner if you must, since it is Apple. :-)
Seth A @ Apr 4th 2008 4:16PM
Upon further inspection of the picture, it has me curious. I mean, I don't pride myself in finding fakes, but if this is a fake, its well don, by comparing this to the back of my iPhone, the camera is moved a bit, and the Apple logo is also higher up, plus there is no "break" from the metal to the plastic. Again, not good at finding that stuff. Glossy black isn't really go along with Apple's current "style" but you never know I imagine.
Zach @ Apr 4th 2008 4:20PM
What, no front, that would be complete proof if we saw a 3G symbol on the screen, until i see that i call fake.
Juice @ Apr 4th 2008 4:22PM
More buttons! Oh the horror!!!
Juice @ Apr 4th 2008 4:26PM
On second look it looks a bit thicker... Hmmm.
zachary miller @ Apr 4th 2008 4:27PM
Though thats what they said when the Nano 3rd generation photos were leaked
Anonymoose @ Apr 4th 2008 4:27PM
i'd want it to look like a super hot girl.
Anonymoose @ Apr 4th 2008 4:30PM
does it say "8GB" on the back? do you think they would release an 8gb 3g iphone? id figure for that one they would make 16 standard to try to stay ahead of the curve of expandable drives. as for a potential new iphone being black, that might be an initiative to make the iphone more of a business phone since the suits like the phone to match the color of their souls.
Juice @ Apr 4th 2008 4:58PM
Yeah screw business men. Who needs em?... sarcasm /off
But you may be right about the 8gig thing. I would think they would start with 16.
zachary miller @ Apr 4th 2008 4:38PM
8Gb may be the size it comes in, with of course, an update in September to 16Gb to boast sales, get more rebuyers.
poharp14 @ Apr 4th 2008 4:57PM
I would like to have the headphone not recessed. A soft touch feeling like on the treo 755 instead of the slippery brushed metal on the iphone now. Other small things that have nothing to do with usability would be the apple logo on the back to glow.. and maybe the home key to glow iin sleep mode and maybe blink red when missed a call.. with the ability to turn that feature off if need be. Also 16 and 32gb would be amazing... i prefer 32 atleast. obviously 3g.. i really would like picture mail and gps as well.. hopefully they can link up with telenav some how never realized how much i liked my bb with telenav and pic mail until its gone.. almost considering switching. a button for the camera isnt a bad idea as long as it doesnt get very cluttered. oh also i would love to have the ability to search contacts and files using a spotlite form of search like on os x.
John @ Apr 4th 2008 5:20PM
Maybe, just MAYBE they will add a microsd expansion slot...
maybe not.
Bart @ Apr 4th 2008 5:36PM
haha i had quite a laugh at those guys talking about "man antennas is so 1990's".
OF course i mean the different sort of material used on the iphone on the bottom right now. That's needed to get a normal and decent signal for wifi etc (isn't possible through the material used on the major part of the phone) and THAT is what is missing on this one :]
exactly why i'm thinking this is a boring mock up !
slamEVIL @ Apr 4th 2008 5:59PM
you know how you can tell its fake? check out the glare/shine to the right of the apple. see where it goes over the leaf? it shouldnt make it darker,. that part should be the same color as the rest of the logo. they forgot to erase/mask that part of the layer. also, it looks like the perspective of the phon doesnt match that of the computer. and the edges of the mouse pad and button are cut off.
-ASYLUM- @ Apr 4th 2008 10:10PM
If you follow the line of the darker reflection in the black (you may need to adjust monitor calibration to see it, dunno, every screen is different) that darker portion of the leaf follows that reflection, making it accurate. Also, the perspectives appear to be fairly accurate, if you follow the straight lines on the keys and on the trackpad itself, they follow the vanishing point of the phone.
That being said, I have no idea if its physical or photoshop fake, or whatever. Just counter-pointing the photoshop points. :)
slamEVIL @ Apr 4th 2008 11:38PM
actually, that was my point. the logo is white and you shouldn't see where the reflection/glare goes over it. the only time you would see that is if there were an object over the phone causing a shadow on it, which there clearly isn't. it looks like that glare/reflection is a layer set to multiply and probably with the opacity reduced. and the perspective is so clearly off, but i'm not even going to get into that.

Or it could be a phone someone designed on Colorware, cropped the pic, and posted it on a known iPhone satire site called iPhone Savior....

I want a bluetooth stereo audio protocol, and GPS. I realize it's probably not going to happen, mostly because I think it's a matter of battery life. But, since we're wishing here, that's what I wish for. Copy and Paste would be nice, also some flavor or flash support.
My expectations are reasonable though:
32GB minimum for mine please, that and 3G is what I've been waiting for to jump ship and head over to ATT. I've let my contract of my current carrier lapse without renewing just for this. So, I'm at least pretty positive that I'll get that much with this new iteration.

if they jump to oled, chances are high that you will get many other upgrades.
if it remains LCD, i don't see many things being added to the phone until later.
helixtimestwo @ Apr 4th 2008 11:06PM
Even if it consumes a bit more battery life A2DP is a must for the iP2. I mean, it's half ipod, right? Why would they cripple the music features of this phone?
I won't buy one without it...
Seth J. @ Apr 4th 2008 6:23PM
If you're gonna fake it at least do it with some style and flair. I like naming it "the darkside" making it more of a Darth Vader thing as in this leaked photo of iPhone 3G.
http://www.iphonesavior.com/black-3g-iphone-2-leaked-photo.html
ace1204 @ Apr 4th 2008 9:13PM
gloss white back would be hot but id rather see rubberized black
tarchie3 @ Apr 4th 2008 9:48PM
I would really want a removable battery and a flash on the camera.
lmw @ Apr 4th 2008 11:39PM
if the ipod touch had a cellular radio, i'd buy it in a second.
Seth A @ Apr 5th 2008 9:59PM
Is that not what the iPhone is? An iPod touch with a Cellular Radio? Unless you are trying to say radio radio.
lmw @ Apr 10th 2008 1:47PM
no, if you have seen an ipod touch and iphone, they have different casing. thinner, black, and the headphone jack is not reccessed. So, if the touch had a cell radio, I would buy it.
Constable Odo @ Apr 4th 2008 11:57PM
Ah! The Emperor has no clothes! That's definitely an iPhone 2. Even from the back you can tell it's the world's best handset that will be desired by at least 45 million people all over the world. Men, women and children alike will do anything just to touch this amazing hand-held browsing device. Let the hype begin for the Czar Bomba iPhone.
It's completely in black, so they should name it the iBro.
SARCASM ALERT!
hello @ Apr 10th 2008 12:42AM
not funny.
Michael @ Apr 5th 2008 12:09AM
The iPhone 2.0 needs:
* A distinct GPS chip
* draft N WiFi
* 3G
* a soft rubberized body, or a metallic body like the iPod 3rd Gen Nano
* 16/32 GB flavors
The Draft-N wifi is a wildshot, but the others sound plausible to me. Jobs wants to take what made the iPhone amazing, improve it, and make sure his company's device makes products like the Samsung Instinct and even AT&T's own LG Vu look outdated.
Anyone think they might do colors like they did with the iPod Nano line? Maybe just a product (RED) iPhone, who knows. I think Jobs must have something up his sleeve that most people wouldn't expect. Customized colors might be that something.
JonnyBruha @ Apr 5th 2008 12:28AM
I hope for the fanboys' sake that this is not the iPhone 2 because that would mean they'll still be getting stuck with a standard 2mp camera with no flash and what looks to be no autofocus as well. But oh! Maybe they'll throw in video recording!. . .
. . .if you're good. . .
ecco6t9 @ Apr 5th 2008 2:16AM
I actually wouldn't mind an AM/FM tuner some of us happen to enjoy live shows and not day old podcasts.
sinfuldoor @ Apr 5th 2008 1:51PM
you can buy a n95 for 550.00 at walmart.
