Verizon surprises no one with XV6900, Motorola Q9c, and LG enV(2)

Next up we have the enV(2) -- a phone we mistakenly identified previously as the enV2 because we just never could've seen those bonus parenthesis coming -- which succeeds the wildly popular enV and injects a fresh dose of industrial design. Features include a 2 megapixel cam, 2.4 inch internal display accompanied by a smaller screen up front that's just big enough for doing calling duty, microSD slot, and the flip-up QWERTY keyboard the enV series is famous for. It'll run $129.99 after rebate on contract when it launches next month.
Finally, the XV6900 brings Verizon in line with Sprint's Touch, though in a far paler shade. It features the full host of Windows Mobile 6 Professional goodies alongside a 2 megapixel camera, microSD slot, 256MB of ROM, 128MB of RAM, Bluetooth, and HTC's TouchFLO interface. Like the others, it's slated for April availability and will run $349.99 on contract after $50 rebate.

Thank you!!
AwlAmericanDawg @ Mar 31st 2008 12:53PM
well i'm not trying to sound like a jack you know what... but anyways, The prices did surprise me actually, especially with the EnV, It was like $199.99 after rebate a long time ago with the old EnV, but this one is 129.99 after rebate.
xB Owner @ Mar 31st 2008 1:19PM
You get a whole lot more phone for $199 these days than the eNV(2) has to offer. I think the $129 price tag is just about right for launch. I'd bet within a couple quarters it is down to $99 w/ new contract.
fyreblazer @ Mar 31st 2008 1:09PM
Why would they call it the XV6900...that's pretty misleading giving the fact that the Touch is not a follow up to the Hermes/Titan. Why not just call it the *gasp* Touch?
packetsniffer @ Mar 31st 2008 1:44PM
Now that would just make it sound old!
RC @ Mar 31st 2008 2:17PM
Because Sprint calls their Touch "Touch" and they wanted to be different.
I don't like the small screen on the enV(2). It's like the Upstage.
PineRoot @ Mar 31st 2008 2:49PM
Sprint also refers to their Touch as the PPC6900, but it is not marketed as such. I don't know the exact reasoning for this though.
Anonymoose @ Mar 31st 2008 2:55PM
RC - then why wouldn't they change the name of the moto q9c?
Cycomachead @ Apr 1st 2008 2:50AM
because while sprint has the mogul and the touch verizon prefers the XV6800 and 6900
which is the stupidest thing because statistically speaking humans don't remember long jumbled things as well a simplr words. And most of the time I think it's a good thing is the consumer knows the name of the product.
I'm a freshman in high school and some people really think my 6800 is cool (touch screen slide out keyboard) but when it comes to the name - confused faces and the "Vzw is stupid" type comments which I can only agree with!
Cycomachead @ Apr 1st 2008 2:53AM
Also as far as the numbering scheme goes: I'm pretty sure is just the order that HTC/Utstarcom developed them. sprint does have the PPC#### system but (smartly!) uses names for marketing. The rest is unknown

What ever happened to that HTC Iris????
Rob @ Mar 31st 2008 4:39PM
"we just never could've seen those bonus parenthesis coming" OMG, that is one of the funniest things I have read in weeks!!! Not that I would ever expect ANYTHING extra, free or bonus from Verizon...the only thing I can say good about them locally is the great coverage...but you practically have to pay to charge your battery with them... ;o)
mike k. @ Mar 31st 2008 7:13PM
The lack of Wifi in the touch or any of these for that matter makes me sad.
sk8rpro @ Mar 31st 2008 7:47PM
There's no need to be sad! Chin up, all you have to do is use plastic with them, and they will gladly let you use Mobile Web. It's that easy!
Pfft. These other mobile companies - letting you use wi-fi or bluetooth obex on your phone? What are they thinking?! How will they make money that way by not allowing a chance to use more of their services?
Jeremy W @ Apr 1st 2008 1:22AM
My Samsung i760 from Verizon has both WiFi and OBEX support. No hacking necessary.
mike k. @ Apr 1st 2008 9:24AM
I know the i760 and the titan (xv6800 or whatever) have wifi, but both of those are larger and clunkier than say the Touch... There is a touch version with wifi, its just GSM, and not any where in the states.. too bad.. Verizon could have been cool if they brought the wifi touch over..
Za @ Mar 31st 2008 10:24PM
As a Verizon user, I was waiting for the Touch to come out and I will probably wind up getting one. That said, I think the price is unfortunate...it's $350 after a $50 rebate. The iPhone has wifi and 8GB of internal memory for $399.
I would pay $50 more for wifi and glass/metal build instead of plastic. In the end though, plans wind up being cheaper for me for VZW. Unfortunate, though, since the Touch is the closest competitor out there.
Justin B @ Apr 1st 2008 1:00AM
Don't forget signal coverage :(
(ex-verizonee)
Za @ Apr 1st 2008 1:10AM
VZW gets the best signal in my area and with the discount, it's also the cheapest service for me. The *phones* are weak.
elgee02 @ Apr 2nd 2008 12:38PM
EV-DO > WiFi. Piss poor analogy of this phone to the iPhone. Now if the iPhone had WiFi AND 3G, then you might have a point. But at least this phone will have A2DP and MMS capability unlike the iPhone.
BJNY @ Apr 1st 2008 8:21AM
Is the LG enV(2) available for T-Mo. I like the big keypad for my elderly Mom. Any other phones out there with big keypads?
Za @ Apr 1st 2008 1:47PM
No; they run on different networks - CDMA vs GSM.
Rob @ Apr 1st 2008 2:42PM
Free Mobile Web is easy on VZW Phones...check out the HoFo forumns...Google is your friend!!!
thatiphoneguy @ Apr 2nd 2008 8:09AM
wow.. now i've got some thinking to do. Just got a iphone and i haven't activated it yet but now Verizon comes out with a new set of phones.....What to do ...what to do?!??!?/
