Things may be looking brighter for Nokia N96, Xenon flash in the works?

PhoneMag is reporting on a post at the Esato forums that mentions the N96 may well be getting itself an update before it even hits the shelves -- this is a bit friend of a friend stuff, so please think rumor while reading. Word has it that the lowly LED flash is being replaced with a Xenon number which has some advantages in low-light situations -- such as useful pictures. Of course, there's always a rub, the dual-LED version that's being replaced could have been useful for shooting video and its replacement isn't going to fill that void -- and is a wee bit more power hungry. We guess we won't know 'til Nokia lets us know, but we'll do our best to shake an answer out of them next week in Las Vegas. Feel free to chime in with your thoughts on which flash would make you the happiest N96 owner -- or, perhaps we could have both please Nokia?

The xenon flash sounds awesome. The one thing it needs though, is US 3g.

On ALL US bands that is...Nokia..don't be an at&t's whore... Give US (or us) WCDMA 1700 in addition to at&t's flavor too...

Well, a VGA screen would be favourite, given they've been in Japanese phones for years and even in certain smartphones like the iMate Ultimate 9520 now, then a better navi panel, abandoning the totally useless separate menu button all N-Series phones are afflicted with - totally counter-intuitive and stupid - and slimming it down.

Screen on E90 and N80 are enough, but by some reason Nokia went for crappier screens after N80 maybe it was because competition wherent doing it either and they decided to save costs?
But anyways yeah i agree the thing what i'm mostly missing is VGA. I'm sure that Nokia's TS phones will have those screens, but i would like to start see them in every +2.6 inch screen phones.
To Marty3
N9x are suppose to be video recording orientated so i can see that 2 leds can do the job better there than flash. Thought xenon missing would takes so much from 5mpx camera phone(i know after having N82 for 2 months now).

it would be great if it was true. I was shocked to learn it never had one when it was announced in spain.. And 2led is even worse than 1.
I cant see nokia change it at this late stage. It would need completly new hardware and loads of work.. We will most likelly see a nokia n96i or something like it a few weeks after release of the n96.

that 1200mAh battery is looking pretty good right about now. too bad Nokia didn't find a way to fit it into this one.

I'd obviously pick both like the Sony Ericsson K850i, but if I had to choose, I'd take the xenon flash any day. How often do you take video and need the light anyway?
