AT&T release dates through May (hint: no Vu)
We've just received a fresh round of release dates on AT&T, and if we had to pick a single word to describe the theme here, it'd be "colors." Shades upon shades of phones -- both new and old -- will see a release on AT&T in the next couple of months, starting with the Sony Ericsson Z750a, the first 3G Sony Ericsson to be released by a carrier in the States (but not in North America -- that honor belongs to Rogers); it'll hit in your choice of gray, pink, or purple in early April. The now-ancient UTStarcom 5700 finally sees release toward the end of April more than a year after we first saw it in the FCC's business, giving a lower-end choice to the Windows Mobile faithful. Finally, May should bring about the LG CU720 Shine in black, following its initial offerings of silver and red.Oh, and it looks like the Motorola Z9 and the black Centro should be widely available pretty much any minute now -- stay tuned. Strangely missing from the list is the Vu, though that doesn't necessarily mean it won't be released by the end of May, it merely means that AT&T's not sure yet. Surprise, surprise.
[Thanks, Kal]

no Vu? WTF!?

Yeah, it appears as though AT&T has pulled a VZW.
*smacks Death Star* Get it together.

No shit, they are getting more and more alike every day...o well. At least ATT's commericals are still kinda funny and don't make me feel like I'm in some sort of rap video (i.e. Samsung Juke commercial, LG Voyager commercial's music, etc).

"(noticing a trend with this whole gray thing?)"
Hmm... not particularly. The trend I'm noticing involves all the colors other than gray being made available. We've had gray forever.
Dave @ Mar 26th 2008 12:14PM
yeah I think the more common trend with ATT is its "burgundy diarrhea" color.

the A437 has been in those colors since launch last April and the V3xx has had those colors for quite some time as well, with the lavender being the last one to come out a little over a month ago

My sources say that the Vu should be coming in the middle to late April, and the MediaFLO-less version will come in early May.

No Vu, no business from me. Looks like I'll be taking a closer look at Verizon with their soon to be released Glyde or their future release of the VX9700. At the rate AT&T is going I wouldn't be surprised if Verizon got the VX9700 on store shelves at the same time or before AT&T launched the Vu.
Dave @ Mar 26th 2008 11:14PM
yeah but keeping things in perspective since the Vu runs a proprietary closed OS thanks to LG in the overall realm of smartphones ATT still wears the crown with its massive selection of smartphones...yes, some of them are total crap (i.e Motorola Q9, Pantech Duo, etc) but they still have the Tilt and more Blackberries than you can shake a stick at.

How in the heck is comparing open OS smart phones with a "closed proprietary OS" going to help me "keep things in perspective?"
At this point in my life, I have no need for a smart phone or open OS. What I want is a "feature phone" that does what I want it to do, is stable and has a nice form factor. The Vu is/was it. I don't necessarily need the mobile TV, but it would be a nice option. I want a compact phone that I can slide in my pocket. I want a phone that can double as my music player. I want a phone with 3G and a decent HTML browser. I don't need to go to a smart phone for that.
And if you want to talk smart phones and perspective... that is fine. AT&T offers a total of about 15 offerings between "smart phones," PDAs and Blackberries. Verizon has a total of about 13. So apparently the difference between a mediocre selection and a massive selection is somewhere around 2 devices. And at least in my area Veizon has far better coverage in both regular voice service and 3G data. I will hand it to AT&T in that they are usually cheaper on a month to month basis.
Bottom line? Either company can be "on top" of a comparison. It all depends on exactly what is being compared, the criteria for the comparison, and who is making said comparison.

Yes, but if ATT chose to keep selling Smartphones that were over 2 years old on their website like Verizon does, then it would be somewhere like 30 to 13. (Do we really have to bring out the 3125, 8125, audiovox, not to mention those old ass HP PDAs as well as the MPX220? lol)

Ummmm Rogers hasn't released the z750 yet, they announced it( 3 times) but it still hasn't hit stores. so AT&T is infact the first to release it in North America. Us Canadians are still waiting, as usual...

Any update on when when the W760r is going to be released?
