Virgin Mobile retools prepaid and monthly plans, still no contracts
MVNO Virgin Mobile is taking a rather unusual approach to advertising its new plan features and pricing structures unveiled today, pointing out that they provide "smarter choices in a tough economy." For monthly plans, those "smarter choices" include unlimited nights and weekends starting at 7pm (well, we suppose weekends start at 12am, but you get what we mean) and unlimited messaging for a reasonable $10 monthly. Prepaid plans, meanwhile, are now offering the capability to "roll forward" up to 5,000 unused minutes when the account is re-upped within 30 days. Minute packs are now available in $20, $30, and $50 increments equaling 200, 400, and 1,000 minutes, respectively, knocking the per-minute price down to 5 cents at the highest level. The new goodies are all available immediately.

If only they'd do a "BYOP" I'd be all over this.

Nice plans! If they were on a GSM network, I'd be all over this (so I could use my own unlocked phone rather than the, uh, "affordable" selection that Virgin offers)...

Well that new LG phone they have isn't that bad..
But what I do not like is that there is a expiration date for the usage. T-Mobile To Go refills go up to 90 days. If refilled up to $100 or $100 is added, minutes do not expire for a year.
Like Europe (correct if mistaken) everyone gets free incoming calls! I wish we had that here in the states..

you don't wish we had free incoming calls in the states. you don't realize what you are saying. our communications prices are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy cheaper. think of how big the US is. with this virgin plan u can have as low as 5c per min and can call from Augusta to Los Angeles. now go to europe and try to call from Dublin to Rome. Wait, what's that? You don't have $4 per minute in your pocket?
hold on... let me word this another way... read this in a used car salesman voice...
Hi there Ashraf. I have a TERRIFIC plan for you! You are going to LOVE THIS!
First, I'm going to take away free nights and weekends. I mean, you don't really need that do you? Who is still up after 7pm? And there's nothing going on during the weekends with your friends! Promise!
Next, I'm going to give you the LOW LOW rate of 60 cents per minute! Sounds great, eh? Well ok ok, you seem like a good guy. So during nights and weekends I'll only charge you 20 cents per minute.
Now, I'll let you add 675 text messages for $40! How GREAT is that?! Who needs unlimited? I mean, that's not even a real number! My prices are values that you can calculate!
Finally, if you can come back every week and add at least $10 more to your account, I'll let you call and text anyone in your state for free during that weekend!
Oh, but as a side note, keep in mind all these prices are only if you stay in your own state. If you travel outside your state all these prices shoot up. Oh wait, by shoot I meant to say "float." They float like the clouds above. So peaceful and simple my price plans are, right?
If you need to verify my AMAZINGLY AWESOME plan, it's called the Vodafone UK Pay As You Talk Anynet plan. You remembered to bring your money, right?

Virgin Mobile is THE worst phone company I have ever had the displeasure of coming across. I have had my daughter's phone with them for sometime and I will no longer use them...and I wish I could tell everyone I know not to use them. The customer service is the absolute worst!! Poor english and not at all helpful. I have spent almost 5, yes literally 5, hours on the phone with customer service to get my service restored and it is still off. I have been disconnected, lied to and given the run around until I can't stand it any longer!! I can't believe they are still in business operating like this. I have had no service for over a month, can't get it back on and can't get my money back. Their customer service is no service at all and are worthless!! I wouldn't recommend them to my own worst enemy!!! Stay away!!
