XPERIA X1 white paper reveals yet more details
There certainly hasn't been any shortage of XPERIA X1 details to emerge since the desirable device was first announced back in February, but those still looking for something to whet their appetite until they can actually get their hands on one can now get their fix courtesy of a new white paper released by Sony Ericsson, which packs a bundle of interesting new tidbits. That includes details on the pre-loaded XPERIA panels, along with word of DLNA-compatible media sharing via ActiveSync or WiFi, details on the video recording options (30fps MPEG-4 and30fps H.263, both VGA), and confirmation that the only browser included will be Internet Explorer. Also according to the white paper, you can expect Google Maps and Java ME to be installed by default, and you'll get Exchange Direct Push email built-in, with setup wizards provided for Gmail, Yahoo, and Live Hotmail. What's more, as Inxperia points out, there is also a noticeable lack of 1700MHz support, although we doubt that'll be a deal-breaker for too many folks.

So, why is the US model so nerfed on video playback?

PLEASE T-MOBILE GET THIS!!!!!! *sigh*
GOLIATH @ Mar 19th 2008 7:06PM
well at least it has 2100 which T-Mobile does have in the US
bodeh6 @ Mar 19th 2008 7:25PM
Wrong, it uses a different 2100 then T-Mobile USA. It has the 2100 that the rest of the world uses.

I really think this is the phone that would make me leave Sprint. I love my monthly bill but it's getting ridiculous now.
Veraxus @ May 28th 2008 2:34PM
Yeah, Sprint is just sucking hard with their phone selection. Every time I see a phone worth geeking out over, I can be absolutely positive that whatever carrier it's going to, it's not Sprint.

The original specs had this having 1700MHz UMTS. And now they take it out. Honestly, what the hell is the point of that. This has to be some kind of joke or stupid error. Seriously, they claim to have it, and then poof, gone. This was my last hope as a T-Mobile customer. Now this phone becomes useless for T-Mo 3G. Considering the bone-dry and pathetic roadmap of future T-Mobile phone releases, I don't know why T-Mo is even bothering with a 3G network. Yes, I'm very upset at this.
JonK @ Mar 19th 2008 9:32PM
How about everybody wait for the phone to be released before drawing conclusions. At the very least, read the first paragraph in the white paper:
"This White paper will be published in several revisions as the phone is developed. Therefore, some of the headings and tables in this document contain limited information. Additional information and facts will be forthcoming in later revisions."
mingkee @ Mar 19th 2008 9:31PM
if the FCC doc does not have 1700, SE will be UNFORGIVEN!!!
they cheat T-Mobile users again and again!
Dave @ Mar 19th 2008 9:55PM
why? AT&T always gets the best HTC phones in the USA, like you already didn't know
Boo HTC as the ODM!
Horray Beer! (and video drivers!)
Also: Thank God they are using MicroSD and not some Sony proprietary MicroMemoryStickSD garbage that only works with Sony devices.
cevatt @ Mar 19th 2008 11:49PM
anyone ever think that this "white paper" might have the mistake? every other sony source still has 1700 UMTS listed. also tmobile is preaching that with the rollout of their 3G in Q3 they will introduce an "iphone killer". what the hell else could they be talking about?!?! alls i'm saying is keep the faith loyal t-mo peeps. we've endured a long painful journey with our dash in hand and its about time we get ours!
palehorse @ Mar 20th 2008 10:12AM
QFMFT...
/fingers crossed
Freddy @ Mar 20th 2008 1:44AM
I think its bullshit that they removed the 1700MHz, they probably doing that to scare people or maybe the phone was never 1700MHz. If its 1700MHz then they should just leave it how it is. T-Mobile better release their 3G speed sometime this year cuz T-Mobile customers are suffering lack of speed. They gotta upgrade. No more dissapointments. By the way, when is the XPERIA gonna be release in the U.S and how fast is the iPhone?
Zobi @ Mar 20th 2008 3:24PM
Actually that *would* be a deal breaker (and heart breaker) for many folks. I'll wait till this is confirmed anyway...
captain_duck @ May 28th 2008 6:21AM
Im thinking of upgrading my HTC 4350 herald next year, and this might be the choice. 500 juicy Mhz, GPS and a nice screen.
