Nokia announces N95 8GB NAM availability; we already knew
Seems like Nokia could've used this press release... oh, about two weeks ago when we first got the fateful call from our local store about its availability. Alas, a late press release is better than no press release at all -- especially for a device of this magnitude and symbolic importance in the North American market -- and maybe this is indicative of broader availability. In fact, the release specifically mentions that the N95 8GB "will be available through Nokia Nseries retailers across the United States, such as the Nokia Flagship stores in New York City and Chicago, as well as many online e-tailers," so if you can stomach the $749 outlay, it shouldn't be terribly difficult to come across.

$750? so it's already come down in price by $50? *sigh* ... still can't afford it =(
Randy @ Mar 19th 2008 9:38AM
The device is very nice, but not at $750USD. If it was $499 (or $399 same price as the iphone 8GB) then I'd seriously consider buying it.

So is this coming to ATT, like real soon, or what? not the 8GB model, but the original NAM version:

Before buying, consider Nokia's upgrade policy. There are now four different versions of the n95, all with different firmware versions and capabilities. Knowing if an app, besides the most basic (and I do mean basic) s60 app will work on a particular n95 is a bit of a crap shoot. Nokia needs to get serious and provide consistent updates to their too-long list of devices before they are considered on the same tier as the iPhone and others. After all, these devices cost as much as a notebook computer.

Amen to that. I can't see myself paying almost $800 for a phone, when it doesn't have a keyboard and not a customizable at a winmo device. For $800, I can get a laptop, skype phone, and a psp, and most likely a liver transplant, (LOL). You get my point. I would definitely wait until the price drops to around $500.

I don't quite agree, the n95 at least has a high quality camera that distinguishes it from any other "smartphone" (if that's important to you) but Nokia needs to get serious about providing a supported, consistent platform if they want to be taken seriously.

Living in a Europe and getting N95 8GB free with 2 year contract and having two N95's(N95 and N95i aka N95 8GB) sure makes me wonder why N95 even sells what it sells in NA ;)
And it really seems that those NA models are Nokia's red headed stepa child's. Havent heard them getting any updates yet or...? Comparing it to European models that have already got it all.

This N95-4 is kind of a finished product and doesn't really need any new firmware updates. It has all the updates the N95-2 has: demand paging, fast camera load times and Flash support in the browser.
Plus it has 3G and the bluetooth is not crippled so you can connect a full keyboard if you need it. It has a ton of RAM so you can multitask all the apps you want.
Dell.com is selling it for $640

You can probably find coupons to lower the price even more.

daaaaaaaaaaaang man!! thanks for the heads up! i just purchased it from nokia on monday for the full 780!!!!! do you have any idea where we can find the coupon? i searched and i called dell but i couldnt find any.
thanks again man! you and engadget saved me $140!!!
Devin @ Mar 19th 2008 5:16PM
Dell coupons probably wouldn't cover the N95 since most of them are too specific. If there was a general 10% off coupon or something it would work but most of the time the coupons are geared towards actual computers or have a disclaimer about how they don't apply to unlocked wireless phones

Let's just hope that now that Nokia managed to finish writing this press release they can look towards upgrading the firmware on the N95-3!!!

I have a N95-1, here in the US.
I travel a lot and At&t does not have a robust 3g network, so it affects me little, not having 3g.
I have an 8gb SDHC micro card, so it affects me little for not having the 8GB version.
I do not have flash for native youtube (read: youpr0n), but on a 2.6" or even 2.8" screen I couldn't care less. (Bathroom fapping anyone?)
One really interesting thing that surprised me is that, the N95-4 does not have a micro-SD slot. How smart are you going to feel when someone with a Free with contract Verizon phone puts in his 16GB SDHC card? (Don't start with, "well I don't need a contract, look how much I just saved.", Because you need at least a year contract to get any usable data plan.)
The n95 flagship device was 2 years ahead of it's time, 1.5 years ago. With the N96, Xperia and a slew of 5MP samsung phones coming out, I say it's a last kick at a really nice, but aging bucket.

got it for $640 on dell.com
