Microsoft licenses Adobe stuff for Windows Mobile
Well, that's not much of a vote of confidence for Microsoft's own products, now is it? Despite the fact that Silverlight for Mobile development is well underway, Windows Mobile's patron saint has decided to license Adobe's Flash Lite and Reader LE packages directly and make them available to WinMo licensees straight from the mothership. Though Adobe's press release says that availability on specific devices will be "confirmed later," we imagine that it'll be a no-brainer for virtually every ODM to sign right up to offer the goods -- just ask any Nokia N95 8GB owner how cool the in-browser Flash support is.[Via Mobility Site]

I think it is a very pragmatic move by MS to embrace Flash Lite for their WM platform. It doesn't neccessary undermine SilverLight but rather makes WM very open as a platform for developers to built app for WM.

It is based on Flash Lite 3 so it would support native flash video, even streaming from the Flash Media Streaming server. For a complete feature lists, head over to the Adobe site.
Also the Flash Lite 3 under the license will work as a browser (PIE) plug in, so you can now view flash sites in PIE.

This is a great move by Microsoft in preparation for WM7. It'll have Flash Lite 3 and Silverlight 1.0 (maybe even 2.0 by then). If anyone has already seen what the Silverlight 1.0 beta for Mobile's videos from MIX08, you'll definitely agree that this will "change how we interact with the web on mobile phones" - its that impressive!! and it only took 6 weeks to get a pretty damn good beta of Silverlight working!!!
