Sony Ericsson K850 poster for AT&T spotted in the wild

Also, what's this business about "video phone" and "video calls"? Sounds an awful lot like honest-to-goodness two-way video instead of that whole Video Share thing, doesn't it?
[Thanks, brainsonthemonitor]
Update: Several sources at AT&T stores have told us that they've been commanded by corporate to toss their K850 promotional materials in the trash. Doesn't sound like a good sign, and if the device is indeed canceled, we think it's a tragedy both for AT&T and for Sony Ericsson's North American presence.

Just so you know all ATT stores have been instructed to remove all K850 material immediately. It has been canceled. You can read over at phonescoop for more info here http://www.phonescoop.com/carriers/forum.php?fm=m&ff=4&fi=1640307

I can imagine this being cancelled (which is too bad, i'd like to see this on a US carrier) but I can't really the n95 as a replacement. It will most likely compete with the iPhone, probably AT&T's biggest cash magnet now. In terms of price, it blows the k850's out of the water. I can't think what other n-series phone would really fit though. n81? The fact is that there is already the n75, which makes another n-series plausible. I, on the other hand, would like to see the e51, though unfortunately it doesn't really have complete us 3g.
Perhaps because a SE was cancelled, it will be replaced with another SE? It really does depend on what sort of phone AT&T wants to bring to the US.

Even if it's been canceled it doesn't really matter. Just order it on ebay or somethin'.

Too bad! The K850i is a great phone... I guess AT&T wants to stay in the cameraphone stone age.

Doubtful. My friend is a manager at a corporate store and he told me they got their signs and display phones for the K850a on Friday.

Man I'm not a big fan of Sony Ericsson, but that camera on the back looks pretty slick.
Anthony @ Mar 17th 2008 1:45PM
Looks slick. Mine constantly hung & I would have to give it a slight "whack" to get the slide to open. There were a lot of little system bugs too & their updates were slow in coming.
Went back to the N95- but in the 8gb variety. Very happy.
Anthony @ Mar 17th 2008 4:06PM
I have had the phone [k850i] for months. Looks great and works great for me.
moe @ Mar 16th 2008 3:55PM
" let rogers show you up" they already did rogers has this phone. this was to go up against the n95 camera. it is not a smart phone. yes it has 2 way video calling. most of the features besides camera do need a good 3g connection. there are only 2 newer/better phones SE are releasing all are due out next fall.

Thats mine

I don't think it's canceled. I work for AT&T too and we got that poster back in February. We JUST got a new one Wednesday. If they canceled it, then why would they still send us new posters for it?
It's not canceled. Trust me. I know for a FACT. I just wish I knew WHEN it will come out.
bigbmc26 @ Mar 16th 2008 11:34PM
Well as of Friday, it shows canceled on the info I have. It may come back, but right now it's canceled.
Andy! @ Mar 16th 2008 6:37PM
My ex wife has that phone on Rogers here in Canada and yes, the phone does full-out video calling. It's actually not too bad at all!
GOMAB2k4 @ Mar 17th 2008 12:13AM
If cancelled, do you all think any branded versions will show up on Ebay?
Travis @ Mar 17th 2008 12:21AM
The k850 was canceled. I know both from the southern california AT&T RAE and from the area SE rep. We got signs and demos but it was a last minute pull. N95 will be the high-end non data phone.
Bojan @ Mar 17th 2008 12:47AM
You can buy an unlocked one on the SE site. =P
bozonpjs @ Mar 17th 2008 12:50AM
i can't wait till the unit arrives. i have a good feeling that it will
Jamar @ Mar 17th 2008 6:59AM
Bah, not that this was any good anyway. If you want a *real* SE Cybershot cameraphone go have a gander at the SO905iCS. It takes microSD too- no more MemoryStick M2.
tnkgrl @ Mar 17th 2008 1:35PM
The K850i takes both M2 and micro-SDHC.
Jamar @ Mar 17th 2008 6:29PM
Eh, to be honest I mentioned microSD more as an afterrhought. The big thing with the SO905iCS is the 3x optical zoom.

What's the point in AT&T having a GSM/UMTS network if they're not going to pick up the decent phones from Europe?
I've seen so many great phones cancelled by AT&T. :(
Matt D. @ Mar 17th 2008 10:59AM
Dont worry your heads off you guys, the N95 will replace this phone :)
Anthony @ Mar 17th 2008 4:08PM
N95 is a great phone as is the k850 but both of them are from months ago. When will AT&T actually start getting high-end phones in a timely manner?
RoseGold @ Mar 17th 2008 1:04PM
the us cellphone companies gotta step up by the time they release "high end" cellphones they are at least a year or two out of market i mean by the time att officially releases the n95 nokia will have at least 3 or 4 devices better than it
horseluvr @ Mar 17th 2008 8:33PM
that sucks. AT&T needs to come out with some teen friendly phones that arent kiddish besides the sony erricson slider. THis phone seems really cool
AT&T screws the US again! @ Apr 3rd 2008 7:46PM
I have this phone in the unlocked version and it's great!! AT&T did the US a great disservice by cancelling this phone!!! Thanks for leaving your customers behind most of the world AGAIN in cell phone technology, AT&T!! Not everyone has $400-$500 to pay for the unlocked version and this would have been a great addition to their HSDPA phones!
