Alltel's LG Glimmer is real -- LG says so
The rumored LG Glimmer for Alltel has now been confirmed by way of LG itself, and while there's still no sight of the phone on the regional's own site, the AX830 moniker that the beautiful piece bears -- and the fact that Alltel's name is specifically mentioned in LG's press release -- pretty much says it all. The company calls out the Glimmer as basically a Shine with a touchscreen, which seems like a pretty accurate representation and a good 30,000 foot overview of everything LG's been trying to do in the marketplace for the past 18 months or so.
Despite LG's own lack of insight into the phone's launch, we've independently heard through the grapevine that Alltel will be launching the Glimmer in just two days, the 13th. It'll go for $250 on a two-year contract after rebates, and sorry, Alltel employees -- there's going to be a two-week delay before you can buy your own to ensure that there are plenty to go around for customers. What a rip! Follow the break for Alltel's information.

do u know if alltel plans to provide service in SoCal LACounty? i would so buy this phone if alltel provided service here in LA - would so dump Sprint.

Beats the hell out of Verizon's Venus, that's for sure.
trooth @ Mar 11th 2008 5:28PM
I would hope so, its not competing with the venus, it costs almost twice as much. It is competing with the voyager, which has quite a bit more going for it than this phone has depending on what you are looking for in a phone. To each his own, but it is definitely a good looking touchscreen phone from LG.

i really like this phone. it sounds so cool! too bad Alltel has no coverage here in SoCal LA County. Otherwise i would so buy this phone and dump Sprint. Altel, youre hearing, expand ur services to the west (preferably SoCal LA County), please!!!!!!
Jared @ Mar 12th 2008 12:21PM
If I am not mistaken I do believe Alltel and Sprint share towers.
So you might be able to go with Alltel even though they don't offer service where you are.
rehs93 @ Mar 15th 2008 11:11PM
how?
rehs93 @ Mar 16th 2008 3:39PM
If my prediction is right (and hopefully it is), this phone should
make its way into Sprint. The LG Rumor was released for Sprint before
Alltel got it, and Alltel renamed it "Scoop". So Sprint should have it as the "LG Glow".
