The Nokia N75 "Tab Top": AT&T gets in on the renaming craze, too
Like the Samsung U740 on Verizon, AT&T's Nokia N75 is a workhorse that's been kicking around for a good, long while now. It's a serviceable S60 device -- the very first released with North American UMTS, in fact -- but it's lived its useful shelf life at this point and probably should be put out to pasture, preferably with a few shreds of dignity left intact. It seems AT&T has distinctly different plans for the phone, though, following Verizon's curious renaming buffoonery by christening the N75 the "Tab Top." What does "Tab Top" mean, you ask? We're not totally sure, but AT&T says the feature of the same name "gives you easy access to the most commonly used device functionality without using the menu." We thought S60's Active Standby sorta did this already, but hey, if AT&T wants to get all fancy on us and call it Tab Top, more power to 'em, we guess.

this is in fact a software revision on the N75, not just a rebranding attempt. "tab top" is exactly what it sounds like, there are tabs at the top of the home screen to keep you from having to go into the main menu for everything

I like AT&T and love Nokia but "Tab Top" is FULL OF PH3333333L.
Besides, as the article mentions, this old horse is en route to the glue factory. Furthermore, "Tab Top" is the antithesis of catchy as "N75" sounds worlds cooler....though n95 sounds even better *hint hint*.

A nokia rep actually told me about this a week ago and he mentioned the OS is completly reworked, and may not even run S60 any more.

Then it cannot be the N75 either then...

As long as AT&T doesn't start charging users those stupid smartphone data fees for S60 devices, they can call it whatever they want! :-)

Nothing is changed about the N75. the firmware upgrade or change is basicaly adding A2DP(which should have been there to begin with just like the unbranded N75) and a different idle screen instead of the usual S60 idle screen. its still runs S60 OS and att will continue considering it a phone not a smart phone" thank GOD, sometime ignorance can be a blessing".....oh yeah an the tilt is now available in stores nationwide..hahahaha

AT&T is stupid. Not only does the name sound gay, it's probably Active Idle. Some genius must have discovered it finally and came up with this brilliant plan to make this specific device business only and give it A2DP and call it something stupid. Now I really hope they don't get the N95.
