$99 unlimited plans are all well and good, but if 99 percent of your calls go to peeps that live down the street from you -- or the next island over, as the case may be -- that kind of cash outlay might be overkill.
Boost is bringing its $35 per month unlimited calling plan to the tropical paradise with just one catch: it's in your home area only, which in Hawaii's case, means the islands themselves. Unlimited texting runs an extra $5, unlimited web runs another $5, and if you'd like to extend your home area to cover Cali and Vegas, that runs -- you guessed it -- yet one more Lincoln. Calls outside the home area run a stiff 15 cents per minute, though, so the penalty is stiff and swift if the plan gets abused. The deal is already on the market, so talk away -- in between surfing, fishing, soaking in the sun, and whatever else it is you lucky Hawaiians do.

The Boost product is a set of prepaid rate plans offered by Sprint, similar to AT&T's GoPhone. What is attractive is their new Boost Unlimited rate plan, which offers an unlimited month of service for $45-$50-$55, or $35-$40-$45 in Hawaii and Miami. As a Sprint customer, it certainly makes sense to dump my current plan and get unlimited minutes for about $20 less per month!

Vegas gets the $35-40-45 rate too. I'm thinking about switching, just so I don't have to deal with Sprint's customer service (yes, I know I'll still be on Sprint's network - as an ex-Virgin Mobile and Helio user, that isn't a problem for me).

Oh, and the new Boost Mobile brand is spiffy. (I'm a brand/graphic design geek.) Anything that's a step up from their old "poser mobile" marketing is great.
