The name "Glyde" is in reference to the keyboard that "glides" open and closed. How does that not make 100 times more sense than "Q-Ball," which relates to this phone's form factor in no way what so ever? "Glyde" is a MUCH better and much more sensible name.

Sean

Comments on Verizon wisely renames the Samsung U940 to "Glyde"

@Sean - sure, but every other phone these days is a slider phone. "Glyde" says almost nothing about what makes this phone unique. It's a finger-touch phone with a QWERTY keyboard - that's a big deal. A sensible name would have alluded to that. Marketing the slider mechanism as the star attraction is - these days - like saying "HEY LOOK, it's a phone you can TALK on! What else could they have named it that related more to the design itself? The Touch? Taken. The Croix? Chances are that UI won't be there. The Black[insert rest of name here]? RIM sues people for names like that. Face it, the "Glyde" is the best they could do with what was still available as far as I'm concerned.

Sean

Comments on Verizon wisely renames the Samsung U940 to "Glyde"

Who cares about the name, seriously? Rumors abound on this handset. Whether or not it will run the famed Samsung Croix OS, or the same ol' Verizon OS. Or if it will use a Verizon OS that mimicks to some degree the Croix UI.

Then there is the browser issue. Many people are leaning toward a WAP browser based on OLD photos of a phone that was being beta tested some months back. Most are pulling for HTML support.

This is even one unsubstantiated rumor that has been "confirmed" (by the poster himself) that the phone will be released on 3/25 and will retail for $249 w/ a 2 year contract. Again, there has been nothing at all to legitimize this claim, but it is out there.

xB Owner

Comments on Verizon wisely renames the Samsung U940 to "Glyde"

That didn't take long... there's already a fan site at http://samsungglide.com

It may not be as good as the voyager but it will also be less expensive I'm guessing.
